Act Your Age—Gordon Goodwin/arr. Peter Blair.
Arranger Peter Blair has taken the hot Gordon
Goodwin chart Act Your Age and revised it for
developing players. "Slick and funky" describes
this very accessible arrangement. There are written
solos for 1st alto (cued for 2nd alto) and a 1st
trumpet solo cued in all four trumpet parts. The
lead trumpet has a written A above the staff, but
technically this chart is not difficult and will come
together quickly to earn a spot in your program. The
band will love it, too! Highly recommended! Optional
expanded instrumentation.

H Africa—Paich & Porcaro/arr. Ralph Ford. Here's
a wonderful take on the group Toto's classic rock
tune from the '80s. It's solidly scored throughout
and sounds amazingly like the original while
remaining accessible for developing jazz bands.
With nice dynamic contrasts, an uncomplicated
melodic line, and a medium rock groove, this chart
is one that younger players can really dig into, yet
it will sound mature when performed by a more
advanced group. More features include: half-note
tempo of 90 bpm; written or ad lib solos for alto sax
1 and trombone 1; trumpet 1 range to written G on
top of the staff; and optional parts for flute, clarinet
and vibes. Great tune, fine chart!

H Aftershock!—Larry Barton. This funky rock chart
sure is easy enough...but we won't tell anyone!
It's bold and contemporary with a big sound and
huge impact, along with reasonable ranges and
technical demands. An open solo section with
written suggested solos and very easy changes
will really build confidence in improvising. And, the
most amazing thing is that such a playable chart
sounds so darn hot!

Apocalypse—Larry Barton. An intense, hard-
hitting, up-tempo rock tune with the feel of a
cataclysmic event! Played at around 150 bpm,
it features repetitive rhythms and patterns that
guarantee jazz bands will be performance-ready
with minimal rehearsal time. With careful attention
to instrument ranges and written-out solos over easy
changes, this chart will be accessible for developing
ensembles as well as a lot of fun for more advanced
groups. All this, and it's playable with optional limited
instrumentation. Pure excitement!

funky medium tempo. Combining the elements of
New Orleans second line and contemporary rock
styles, this unique chart features a blend of catchy
riffs, solid ensemble passages, and stop-time
breaks. There are short written or ad lib solos for

Backlash—Donald Pickett/arr. Mike Kamuf.
Backlash is a superb jazz/rock chart! Played at
around 144 bpm, it's a well-written chart in every way
with superb ensemble sections, a hip interlude that
builds into a big shout chorus, written or improvised
solos for trumpet and alto sax, and the lead trumpet
range is to written G. Extra parts are included for
optional augmented instrumentations as well as an

make your band shine. Highly recommended!

Backrow Politics—Gordon Goodwin/arr. Peter
Blair. Peter Blair has adapted this chart for young
players from Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band
chart and it sizzles, yet is accessible! A trumpet

chart to feature the sax player who hardly ever
gets the "good" parts! Your bari sax player will love
getting some air time in this gospel-rock chart! It
includes an open solo section for the bari sax, or

Brick House—arr. Paul Murtha. It is absolutely
impossible to find a funkier tune than this R&B hit
from the 1970s courtesy of The Commodores. This
chart has it all, from the trademark bass riff to the
ensemble punches and melodic hooks. Bring down
the house as you groove on this one!

Buckjump—Andrews & Ballard/arr. John
Wasson. Recorded by Trombone Shorty on
his 2011 album For True and featuring the
Rebirth Brass Band and 5th Ward Weebie, this
hot tune has a funky New Orleans style groove
with a moderate tempo and catchy riffs. The
trombones get the spotlight to start with, followed
by tight ensemble playing and later space for an
improvised or written trombone solo. This chart is
cool, confident and colorful! Highly recommended!

Can't Stop the Feeling—arr. John Wasson.
Topping the charts as well as being featured in the
movie "Trolls," this hit song from Justin Timberlake
features a catchy hook along with an energetic rock
style. The saxes begin with the melody followed by
the trumpets and there's a short written or ad lib
solo for trumpet. Additional features include chord/
scale sheets in all keys, written-out bass lines and

developing players!

H Chameleon—Herbie Hancock/arr. Victor Lopez.
Herbie Hancock for the developing band? Yes! From
Hancock's famous Headhunter recording, here is a
great opportunity to play the biggest jazz-rock hit of
all time. The melody is first played by alto, tenor,
trumpet and trombone, then the trumpet section.
Next up is a flexible, open solo section with a solo
line written for all the winds so anybody or everyone
can solo! The top note for lead trumpet is written
G on top of the staff. Super-cool chart! Optional
expanded instrumentation.
10071885 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .48.00
Connections—Patty Darling. This piece is based
on a terrific hip-hop/swing groove that you won't
be able to get out of your head. It's a guarantee
that your band will love it! Solos are indicated for
trumpet, guitar, or piano. The moderate ranges will
make this a very accessible chart for most bands.
This one will be a crowd pleaser!

Dat Dere—Bobby Timmons/arr. Mark Taylor.
Penned by Bobby Timmons and recorded by a
number of jazz artists over the years, Dat Dere is a
great example of soul jazz from the early '60s. This
arrangement for little big band features alto sax and
trumpet on the head, a section for open solos, and
a short ensemble shout at the end. Perfect for small
bands and a reliable programming choice!

Don't Stop Me Now—Freddie Mercury/arr. Paul
Murtha. The music of the rock group Queen is
always fun to play - particularly this hit featuring
solo alto sax in the slow opening, then the full band
rockin' out in the fast section. There's a short solo
for alto sax, then a return to the slow tempo for a
dramatic finish.

Down to the River—arr. Larry Barton. This up-
tempo setting of the classic spiritual is a guaranteed
winner! After a short and solemn introduction
featuring an alto sax solo, this chart kicks into high
gear with a driving rock feel. This tune features
repetitive rhythms and patterns that will help you

Fowl Play—Kris Berg. This is one funky fowl! Kris
Berg pens an incredibly cool Tower of Power style
funk chart that sets your band up to blow the roof
off the concert hall! Here, he's cooked up another
smokin' chart to pay homage to the, shall we say,
more bird-brained amongst us? This one is easier
than Chicken and more challenging than Tastes Like
Chicken, and is one hot chart. Mmmm, mmm, good!
2474236 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00
Gears—Les Sabina. Gears combines old school
funk and modal rock, along with a bit of blues-
tinged melody. The solo section is written out, and
solo sheets in all keys with scales to assist young
players with improvisation are included. It's melodic
for the style and includes a rhythm section interlude
that provides a nice contrast to the solidly scored
ensemble sections. Playable with optional reduced
or expanded instrumentations, this is an ideal
choice for instruction and performance!

Go for It!—Paul Clark. Let the trumpets show
off, like they always want to do, with Go for It!, a
hard-driving jazz/rock chart in the style of the group
Chase. While featuring the trumpet section, all
sections get their time in the spotlight with some
interplay between the saxes and trombones, and
the drummer even gets to do some hard-rock licks
after the solo section - but it's the trumpets who
take command. If you want some flashy excitement
at your next performance, you just have to "go for
it!" A super chart that's highly recommended!
