The swirling melodies and driving groove of this dynamic chart are a musical representation of being presented with a challenge and continuing to press on to find a solution. Solos can be improvised but are also provided for students who are still "working things out." 11354739 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .60.00 Jazz/Rock & Funk Medium Africa—Paich & Porcaro/arr. John Wasson. Originally a #1 hit for Toto in the early 1980s, and recorded again by the group Weezer, this powerful rock anthem features a distinctive groove and memorable lines. In this chart it's given a contemporary spin while maintaining the feel and drive of the original. There's solo space for trumpet. Highly recommended! 10960648 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 N E W F O R 2 0 2 1 E D I T O R S ' C H O I C E l All the Goss—Lachlan Davidson. A great show starter, this is a fun chart with elements of gospel and rock. A strong introduction sets the tone, followed by a unison trombone melody which is then shared around the sections. With solos from trumpet and tenor saxophone, we are back through a second bridge before a big finish. Catchy melody, great chart! 11347393 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Always Simpatico—Mathew Montgomery. Always Simpatico will take audiences through a unique and satisfying musical journey. The humble melody introduced at the beginning travels from section to section, building in intensity each time before reaching its climax, then resolves in a way reminiscent to how it started, with an improvised solo for tenor saxophone experienced along the way. Similar in style to a rock ballad, but with much more variety, this composition is sure to be a wonderful change-of-pace for concert and festival programs! 11000509 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .60.00 H Arnge Drank—Paul Baker. Wow... orange drink with an attitude! Texas writer Paul Baker presents an outstanding funk chart beginning with a piano riff to set up the rhythm groove before the trumpet and altos hit with the melody. Trombones and low saxes support with counterpoint. After the trombones take it through the bridge the saxes again state the melody in a dramatic stop time section that moves into the trumpet and trombone solos. After a drum solo, the bari and bass trombone shine as they set the funky foundation for the shout chorus. A return of the piano riff sets up the final melodic statement and dramatic coda. Trumpet range to written High C. Trombone to G. Pure fun, and highly recommended! 10369423 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Attitude Dance—arr. Mark Taylor. Celebrating more than 40 years of funk and soul, the unmistakable sound of Tower of Power still sounds as fresh and impressive as ever. This adaptation for six horns (3 saxes, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone) and rhythm section features the blazing horn lines and driving groove of the original. Optional parts are included for alto sax, tenor sax and trombone 2. 10283054 Jazz Ensemble (Little Big Band). . . . . . . . . . . .45.00 Bass of Operations—David Larsen. Here is a tune that will have your audience bobbing their heads. The relentless groove of the bass along with some complex harmonies make this chart a great addition to your program. It offers an open solo section and is a funky modern rendition of the blues! 11202972 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .60.00 Big Time—Gregory Yasinitsky. Big Time is a great funk chart with a hot melody that's fused with a swinging bass line and a half-time, hip hop groove. It includes a fun saxophone soli, written or ad lib solos for tenor and trumpet, and an exciting ensemble section which grows from a whisper to a roar! Don't miss the section where the drums trade off with the ensemble. Highly recommended! 10879767 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 H Birdland—Josef Zawinul/arr. Victor Lopez. Just listen to this chart and you know you have to have it as Victor Lopez brings the original Weather Report version to life for jazz ensembles. All the ingredients are here, plus solo space (written or improvised) for alto 1 and/or trumpet 2, nice chord voicings throughout, and the lead trumpet top note is only a written G on top of the staff. Very easy to assemble and perform, this will be a hit every time! Optional expanded instrumentation. 10277740 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 H Blackbird—Lennon & McCartney/arr. Mike Tomaro. Perhaps one of the Beatles' lesser known tunes, Blackbird remains one of their most creative and memorable. Mike Tomaro's smooth setting uses a blend of light funk along with a brief samba section to create a truly outstanding effect. The theme is stated simply in the beginning by trumpet, followed by an array of orchestrational textures and harmonies. Highly recommended! 10098755 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 N E W F O R 2 0 2 1 E D I T O R S ' C H O I C E l Bluestone Lane—Roger Schmidli. Feature your lead trombone with this great chart. Things start off sultry with a written solo and ethereal lines in the saxophones and trumpets. When things come together, it has some punch. Later on, the trombonist improvises for an extended solo. If you are looking to feature your lead trombone and have a great group that can back them up, go for this chart! 11347399 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 Brother Mister—Christian McBride/arr. Mike Kamuf. A stop-time development section and a power shout chorus are but a few of the exciting features of this straight-eighth groove chart composed by Christian McBride. Set at a medium tempo, this hip tune includes written or improvised solos for alto 1, trumpet 2, tenor 1, and drums. The lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations. Very cool in a contemporary way! 10311431 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 Buffalo Wings—Mike Carubia. This outstanding funk original is based on two chord changes, I & IV Dominant chords, making soloing a breeze. A short interlude, or bridge, provides a break from the two chords adding interest to the overall effect of the chart. With hints of Watermelon Man, this tune features unison melodies and hip harmonies making it extremely fun to play and hear! Tons of personality! Highly recommended! 10072056 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .47.00 Bug Juice—Adrien Re. Bug Juice is a groovy, hip- hop inspired chart that will give your best trumpet, tenor sax and trombone a great opportunity for showcasing! It also features a cool breakdown section with a nod to Bob Mintzer that sets up the open solo section. The whole piece is rounded out with a powerful shout chorus and modulation. This one is going to bring the place down! 11199472 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 Caravan—Duke Ellington/arr. Mike Tomaro. You know it as swing, but this is the hot version recorded by Chicago! Ellington's famous standard gets a fresh face-lift in this exciting arrangement by Mike Tomaro! 2354991 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 H The Chicken—Alfred James Ellis/arr. Kris Berg. If you've got a strong bassist, this is your showstopper! This chart, made famous by bass virtuoso Jaco Pastorius, gets kicking with a killer gospel chorale, but is soon interrupted by one of the funkiest bass lines ever played! Soon the entire band is in on it with a Tower of Power-style sound that is sure to impress everyone listening! 2467934 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 Cold Duck Time—Eddie Harris/arr. Erik Morales. Eddie Harris' Cold Duck Time features a straight eighth feel and a very hip opening intro lick. This terrific chart is set in a funky, rock groove at about 132 - 144 bpm and has written or improvised solo space for alto sax, bari sax, trumpet 2, and guitar. The lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff (with an optional B). This chart totally cooks! Highly recommended! 10355584 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 Corn Bread—Lee Morgan/arr. Mark Taylor. Similar to Lee Morgan's Sidewinder, this tune is written in a moderate soul/jazz style. This funky arrangement for six horns and rhythm section is sprinkled with stop-time breaks and catchy riffs, plus it's a fun chart for soloing! The small band instrumentation is for six horns (ATB saxes, two trumpets and one trombone) plus four rhythm with optional additional parts included for alto, tenor and trombone. It's perfect for smaller programs and additional ensemble opportunities! 10617900 Jazz Ensemble (Little Big Band). . . . . . . . . . . .45.00 H Critical Mass—Jeff Jarvis. Here's a chart that everybody's gonna like! It's a straight-ahead funk chart with an infectious beat, popping bass, cool sax licks and hard brass pops. If you've tried Jeff's other funk charts, you're going to want this one. And if you haven't, you'd better get started! Definitely a hip, groovin' tune that better bands will get into! 2439297 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 H Crunchy Frog—Gordon Goodwin. Bass and guitar kick off this original Gordon Goodwin chart with a captivating rhythmic pattern before the full ensemble settles in with the funky melody. There's plenty of ensemble writing, some in unison and some in harmony, and solo space for all winds with suggested or improv solos. The lead trumpet range goes to written G-sharp on top of the staff, the tempo is around 115 beats per minute, and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations. This is accessible Gordon Goodwin material that is right in the pocket for this grade level! Our highest recommendation! 10311433 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 BEST SELLERS Jazz/Rock & Funk Medium Buy jazz charts that work!
