Sinfonietta for Strings—Anthony Granata. This
engaging original composition is written in the
classical style and provides an excellent introduction
to classical performance techniques and forms.
Written in G major, the B section makes a creative
shift to E minor. Hooked bowing, dynamics, and
part independence are also reinforced. All sections
get to share thematic and countermelodic material
that is creatively interwoven. An excellent choice for
concert or contest!

Snowfall at Dusk—Aaron Fryklund. This elegant
and nostalgic piece depicts gentle snow falling as
twilight fades on a winter's eve. The legato theme
features slurred phrases and sustained pedal-tone
pitches to help develop tone and bow-control
skills. The contrasting staccato section sparkles
like snowflakes in the golden sun, with easy meter
changes and a playful syncopated feel before
ending with a soft diminuendo.

Snowflake—Yukiko Nishimura. Floating and
delicate, this gorgeous piece features long melody
lines and plenty of sustaining harmonies. It evokes

Stone Mountain Stomp—Carl Strommen.
This one stands out in the "fiddle tune" category.
Carl Strommen has managed to take some of
the sounds of Southern fiddling and mix them
with a Western "Copland-esque" style and make
something really special. Another great feature of
this one is that the violas and low strings all get a
chance at some fiddling.

Contest, the French title means "Tango of Love."

work paints a vivid picture of a lush and flourishing
Florida garden and provides many wonderful
