Stephen Bulla. Mix the stylish spy music from the 1960s with a dose of cool jazz and you have a winning combination for jazz ensemble. From the Pixar hit animated movie, here's a high-energy and entertaining chart that captures the essence of the soundtrack perfectly, with three themes from the movie that offer a ton of variety and entertainment! A middle section in a jazz waltz style is framed by exciting rock styles that will be appealing to both audiences and developing players. Highly recommended! 2480196 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . M 55.00 Isn't She Lovely—Stevie Wonder/arr. John Berry. From Stevie Wonder's landmark 1976 album Songs in the Key of Life, this smooth and tender hit has gone on to become a jazz standard performed and recorded by many artists. In a moderate swing style, this easy chart captures the essence of the original in this version of younger bands. Including short written or improvised solos for alto sax and trumpet, it also has options for limited or expanded instrumentations. Highly recommended! 11105220 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . E 40.00 Joy to the World—arr. Bob Turner. A rock version of one of the most famous Christmas carols, it features flexible instrumentation and a funky groove in the rhythm section that will energize your students and audience! Even though it is flexible, it still boasts a big powerful sound in the tutti sections. 11354664 Combo . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 50.00 Megalovania—Toby Fox/arr. Paul Murtha. Quirky and featuring a bit of a retro sound, this up-tempo theme is immediately recognizable to anyone in the gaming world. Solidly scored with plenty of drive and excitement, this will definitely add a little fun to any performance! 11105142 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . ME 45.00 The Moment of Truth—Roger Schmidli. The alto soloist faces their "moment of truth" in this uplifting and funky feature that provides the soloist a chance to really show off their flair and energy. Starting with a fun yet relaxed opening, it isn't long before the chart leads into a punchy bridge section featuring the whole band. There is a brief respite before the soloist takes an extended improvised solo and we begin to hear the ensemble develop. The band continues to build with the soloist and finally tears into a simple but powerful band shout section that lets the drummer really let loose! The chart concludes as the soloist finally returns to the original melody before ending their own moment of truth with a musical sigh of relief in the final bars! Great trombone writing. Get this chart! 11347395 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . M 50.00 No, No, No... We Gotta Go—Steve Parsons. A funky rock chart with attitude, this piece is good- naturedly dedicated to that one person in the band who makes everyone late as their friends chant "we gotta go" in exasperation. The saxes take the main theme with brass answering lines, then the roles are flipped for the B section. Also featured is a wide dynamic range with opportunities to enforce precise articulation. Lots of cowbell underscores the call-and-response bridge leading into solos for tenor saxophone and trumpet. 11346116 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . E 45.00 Overdrive—Blair Bielawski. Your young rhythm section will really be able to dig in with this funky cut-time rock chart. It features bold melodies along with some compelling counterlines from the saxes and guitar. Driving rock is at the heart of this piece, but there are several passages with winds only that provide some subtle contrast. If you have an electric guitar player and you want to add a new dimension to your band's sound, have them experiment with some effects when playing a line with the saxes or trombones. 11346120 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . VE 45.00 Seven's the One—Mark Taylor. Featuring a distinctive upbeat groove in 7/4 throughout (3+4), this inventive original is a fabulous duet feature for trumpet and tenor sax. In between the duet statements and solos are full ensemble passages adding a nice variety and pacing to this creative piece. 11208472 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . M 55.00 H Sir Duke—Stevie Wonder/arr. Michael Mossman. In 1977 Stevie Wonder was in his prime and Sir Duke was on top of the charts. Michael Philip Mossman takes this familiar hit and adds his own unique touch. The opening features the brass with sax section fills. The middle section goes into a double-time swing and includes a solo for tenor sax, a soli for the saxes, and a drum break. All the familiar lines from the original are there too! Suggested solos are included along with scale/ chord sheets in all keys. Highly recommended! 10297508 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . M 50.00 Slim Chickens—Kris Berg. Here's Kris Berg's chicken chart for 2019! Slim Chickens is a melodic funk chart over a nice progression and it's accessible for developing groups with the lead trumpet range going to written G top staff. There are written suggested solos for tenor sax 1 and trombone 1 with very cool backgrounds supporting the soloists. It cooks at around 148 bpm with some nice bari sax licks, a sax soli, and full-sounding ensemble sections. Nothing slim here, it's a great chart, and it's highly recommended! 10997196 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . M 48.00 Son of the Chicken—Kris Berg. It's back! This was written for the 20th anniversary of the original The Chicken, so it's time to celebrate with this funky fowl! This chart is more accessible for younger bands, with a chorale intro, written solos for trumpet and tenor, and lead trumpet range to written G on top of the staff. It's funky. It's hip. 'Cause everybody loves the Chicken! 11355024 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . E 48.00 Straight Ahead, G—Niels Rosendahl. Here is a hard-swinging blues channeling the sound and style of the "New Testament" era of the Count Basie Orchestra. There is an open solo section and plenty of great saxophone section licks to keep them on their toes. The top trumpet note is high C. It's a great chart with that classic style that we all love! 11347397 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . M 55.00 Sweet Georgia Brown—Ben Bernie & Maceo Pinkard/arr. Michael Sweeney. Although known primarily as the theme for the famed Harlem Globetrotters, this familiar standard has remained popular through the years with recordings by countless jazz artists. VE 40.00 Toccata and Fudge—Julian Bond. This chart is richly inspired by J.S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor but brought to the realm of jazz ensembles! This chart is unique with its funk treatment of this classic with some mixed meter thrown in. There is an open solo section to feature all of your best improvisers. The lead trumpet plays up to D# above the staff while the lead bone part takes you up to A. Not to be missed! 11315422 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . MA 68.00 H Watermelon Man—Herbie Hancock/arr.
