ORIGINAL CONCERT WORKS medium-easy
Molto Perpetuo—David Bobrowitz. This work for
strings has a lot to say and even more opportunities
to teach. Delicate bowing considerations will help
strengthen legato bowing on the offbeats as well as
reinforce staccato and pizzicato. Each section has
meaningful material. A useful teaching piece that
will sound great in performance too!

Momentum—Richard Meyer. A great choice
for your next concert or contest! This provides a
wide variety of outstanding teaching opportunities
while using a fresh, contemporary sound that your
students will love! As the title suggests, a driving,
rhythmic pulse permeates this modern original, but
the piece incorporates two diverse moods: a highly
rhythmic first section in B Minor, built on rising
and falling thirds, followed by a simple chorale in
folk song style. Once this slow material is passed
around the energy is re-established with earlier
material. A solid work for concert and contest.

and creative harmonic choices including minor
sevenths and diminished chords give this piece its
very distinctive sound and provide great exercises
on more advanced fingering patterns. Your players
will love rolling up their sleeves and getting dirty!

The Picnic: Watch Out for the B's—Ingrid Koller.
This piece tells the story of a picnic interrupted by
pesky bees. As time goes on, more and more bees
can be heard, and every section gets a turn. Listen
for the sounds of the bees as they travel around
the orchestra. Most of the "buzzes" include the
musical note B in the dissonant cluster of notes.
This piece gives your students a chance to tell a
story with their music - invite them to engage in
the drama, looking nervously around or occasionally
swatting an imaginary bee in front of their faces.
The orchestra creates the narrative of happy
picnickers having their beautiful day interrupted by
pesky bees.

the confidence they need to navigate a too-often
neglected time signature. Pieces of Eight gives
every section a turn at the fun and catchy melody
while the repeated patterns in the accompaniments
will reinforce students' reading of the new rhythms.

Sea of Stars—Liam Ramsey-White. The "Sea
of Stars" on the island of Vaadhoo in Maldives is
famous for its unique bioluminescence. As the waves
break against the shore, the water turns a sparkling
blue, appearing as stars reflected in the water. The
opening of this piece imitates the shimmering water
as a nostalgic motif is presented by a solo cello over
delicate harmonics and tremolo. The piece swells,
ebbs, and flows with a beautiful theme that ends as
quietly and magically as it started.
