Go to cart CONCERT WORKS Tarantella (Jubilate Agno)—Z. Randall Stroope. The tarantella, meaning "spider dance," is a popular Italian dance with origins in the eleventh century from the villages of Tanto and Tarentum ("little spider"). Portions of Christopher Smart's Jubilate Agno text are also used. The convergence of the medieval tarantella with the writings of a brilliant poet who bordered on the absurd, along with the infusion of random rhyming words by the composer, makes a dramatic synthesis of words to accompany the highly energized, challenging music with string quartet or optional piano. 11410878 SATB divisi, or SSAATTBB . . 2.75 Telescope—Krishan Oberoi. Mirroring in the musical texture what poet Kate Wakeling has created in the composition of her poem, the music revolves around a fixed pitch that appears as an ostinato on the syllable "O." Expressing the wonders of the telescope that can reveal the mysteries of the universe, the a cappella setting grows in harmonic texture and complexity to build the character of the work. Modern and inventive! 11410687 SSATB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.25 They Cry Peace—Murphy C. Williams/arr. George Lynn. The words are simple - "They will cry peace where there is no peace" - but the setting of the music is rhythmic and dynamic. The repetitions make sense as the words move on to "joy" and "love," and you realize it sounds like a gospel preacher's sermon in song. 11396154 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.95 Three Shakespeare Songs—John Rutter. The shades of Finzi and Vaughan Williams are strongly present in these three delightful unaccompanied choral settings, and yet the style and execution are wholly Rutter's own. O Mistress Mine is a jaunty jazz waltz, Be Not Afeard casts a dreamy spell with dusky sonorities and magical harmonies, and Sigh No More, Ladies brings the set to a cheerfully melodious and high-spirited conclusion. 11415047 SATBB Choral Score . . . . . . 10.50 11402410E SATBB Sigh No More, Ladies ePrint. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.85 11402412E SATBB O Mistress Mine ePrint 2.85 11402409E SATBB Be Not Afeard ePrint . 2.85 Touch the Hem of His Garment—Margaret Bonds/ed. John Michael Cooper. Along with No Man Has Seen His Face, this set of two pieces was composed in 1968 as both sacred choral and solo art songs, setting texts written by her friend and frequent collaborator Janice Lovoos. This work for soprano solo and choir is typical of Bonds' lifelong involvement with church choirs, offering high-quality music that is also accessible and useful. The text speaks of a profoundly simple faith, and the musical setting creates an effective emotional response with meaningful high points. 11404099 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.95 11404097 No Man Has Seen His Face - SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.95 Traum durch die Dammerung Dream Through the Twilight, Op. 29 No. 1— Richard Strauss. The well-loved ancient chant is transported into the 21st century in this masterful setting, slowly unfolding layer after layer of beauty, and gradually adding vocal polyphony over an ethereal piano accompaniment. Optional chamber orchestra or full orchestra adds additional texture and color. Suitable for worship or concert. 11395421 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.75 11408035 SSAA . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.75 Unconditional Love (A Cantata of Gratitude and Remembrance)—Howard Goodall. Scored for soprano solo, SATB choir, piano, organ, and brass ensemble, it is a seven-movement work that commemorates the selflessness and togetherness felt by communities worldwide, each of which offers its thanksgiving in a different way. Murphy. Here is a tender love song from the "Song of Solomon" that was premiered at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Dr. Jason Max Ferdinand. Part of the National Concerts series the piece begins with a soprano solo that quickly flows into the choir's entrance. Most love songs finish in delicate quietness but the final cadence of this motet is a strong passionate statement. 11396327 SATB divisi . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.75 Until Forever Fades Away—Frank Ticheli. The lyrics for this work are by composer Frank Tichelli. In the opening liner notes he tells us that "the poem for the work is a meditation on time's ceaseless flow, elusiveness, ravages, and gifts." Scored for mixed divisi chorus with piano or strings, "the musical setting divides roughly into three parts, moving from a sense of mystery and wonder, to chaos, and finally folding into prayer before fading away to complete silence." Try it with your advanced ensemble. 11396191 SATB divisi . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.95 Wait Til I Put On My Crown—arr. Stacey V. Gibbs. The upbeat text in this spiritual arrangement tosses the devil away and celebrates praying, singing, and going to heaven! From the riveting dynamics to its strong lyrical message, this piece is a wonderful choice for any treble choir. 11415934 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.85 When Music Sounds—Gwyneth Walker. Based on the poem Music by Walter de la Mare, the music and the text express the transportive power of music and nature. The signature musical motif returns throughout the accompaniment, emphasizing the message that our imagination may be delicate, but it endures. 11394764 SATB divisi . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.85 When Science Triumphs—David Chase. Commissioned to honor three individuals dedicated to fighting diseases that have plagued our world during the 20th and 21st centuries, this exciting modern concert work celebrates the accomplishments of the scientific community. Part of the five-song May You Heal Project, these titles offer music of comfort, peace, renewal, and self-awareness as part of our pandemic recovery. This beautifully moving work was specially commissioned by the Dean and Chapter of Westminster for performance at the Funeral Service of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey. The text from St Paul's Letter to the Romans perfectly reflects the late Queen's steadfast Christian faith, and the work expresses hope, triumph, and rejoicing. While fitting for memorial and remembrance services in general, it will also be suitable at Easter and for general use. As an alternative to 'Allelulia' a verse from the Book of Revelation is provided for use during penitential seasons. 11417803 SSAATTBB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4.25 Wild Swans (from "The Lost Birds")— Christopher Tin. From the Grammy-nominated work The Lost Birds, this setting of a poem by Edna St. Vincent Millay ends the first half of The Lost Birds. Told from the point of view of the poet, it starts with the sound of bird cries: gradually approaching from a distance, until they pass overhead, triggering feelings of longing. After an instrumental interlude, and the narrator's impassioned declaration of freedom, the song ends as it started—with the cries of wild swans receding into the distance, foreshadowing their demise. 11417561 SATB divisi . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.60 The World, This Wall, and Me—Michael Bussewitz-Quarm. This selection is about a transgender woman's dream in which she feels that no matter her struggles, everything will be okay. With inspirational lyrics, "I will not let fear become my beacon," this piece is a fitting reminder to everyone that it is okay to take time to heal. "Now I can see you in all your wondrous colors!" 11399921 SATB divisi, or SSAATTBB . . 3.50 Zwei Lieder, Op. 68 Nos. 1 & 2 (Two Songs)—Richard Strauss.
