Cumberland Cross—Carl Strommen. A true
concert band classic that explores the rich
American folk style in two sections. The first
has broad, moving harmonies under a melody
reminiscent of Shenandoah, and the second a
lively dance evoking Copland. This flex version
is designed with maximum adaptability for use
by any mix of instruments - wind, strings, and
percussion, including like or mixed ensembles
with as few as five players. With purchase,
permission is granted to photocopy the parts
as needed for your ensemble. String parts call
for more advanced fingering patterns, shifting,
and ranges. All string parts have been carefully
edited with extra fingerings and appropriate

Nickel. Originally written for orchestra, Danzon
No. 2 has enjoyed significant popularity on

itself was Cuban-born, from a natural synthesis
of Spanish, British, and French dance forms.
This work is built on a beautiful, elegant main
theme, stated on clarinet, building in intensity
before erupting into passionate rhythms later.

Cast in the dark, dramatic key of F minor, this
work is in a traditional overture form. A jaunty
introduction in low brass introduces the first
theme, which is tossed between sections
before a transition takes us to an allegro.
Here a second, more melodic F minor theme
appears. This second theme is developed in
multiple keys before the work slows down to
an adagio, where a third melodic theme first
appears in clarinets.
