Several contrasting dance sections are presented: the opening is a bright and spirited 2/4, while the next section is smooth and flowing in 3/4; then it's all tied together nicely with a recap of the original theme. 11503690 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .65.00 11503746 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 9.00 Reverie—Robert Schumann/arr. Loreta Fin. Robert Schumann's Scenes from Childhood is a set of thirteen pieces for piano, written in 1838. The seventh one, Reverie or "Traumerei," means dreaming. Playing soft, slow pieces is never easy, and requires great bow control, focusing on weight and speed. This arrangement is also quite rhythmically challenging, using long slurs, and ties, which require planning and careful counting for entries. Rubato is used throughout the piece and the tempo changes call for the students to pay close attention to the director. There are opportunities for all to practice vibrato and also some position work in the violin and viola parts. 11511846 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .50.00 11511925 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 7.00 Rise of the Olympians—Brian Balmages. Follow in the footsteps of Olympians and experience the strength, passion and commitment of these incredible athletes. The soft, rich opening foreshadows the powerful music that follows. Aggressive rhythms are juxtaposed with soaring melodies and harmonic moments filled with tension and release. An exciting work with film score qualities and an optional harp part. 10877057 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .55.00 10877058 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 Rise of the Phoenix—Carlos Lalonde. The mythical phoenix symbolizes rebirth by rising out of its own ashes. This piece explores a rhythmic motive that gains momentum as it develops, then dies away before rising to even greater heights. Set in E minor with D-sharp accidentals, the fiery theme uses accented accompaniments and dramatic dynamics to build intensity, growing to a glorious finale. 11500113 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .55.00 11500390 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 8.50 A Riverside Celebration—Brian Balmages. Opening with a thriving energetic rhythm, this exciting piece features a memorable dance- like melody that will stay with the listener long after the celebration is over. Moving through simple meter changes that create additional momentum, the various sections include moments of slight restraint contrasted with carefree fun. Get ready to experience the soundtrack of one giant celebration! 10877027 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .60.00 10877028 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 Rondeau No. 3—Joseph Bologne/arr. Robert Debbaut. This lively Rondeau from Bologne's Six String Quartets, op. 1 is a classic seven- part rondo in G major, D major, and G minor. As was typical of the Classical style, the melody is heard mainly in the first violin while the other sections provide supporting harmonic and rhythmic roles. The essence of the string quartet scoring is retained by having the bass double the cello part, resulting in a charming and accessible concert selection. 11500107 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .55.00 11500384 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 8.50 Rosin Eating Zombies from Outer Space— Richard Meyer. Don't miss this! If there is one piece your developing orchestra will love rehearsing and performing, it's this one! This programmatic piece spins a tale of mayhem and mischief as the rosin eating zombies take over your stage complete with blood-curdling screams, glissandos, ponticello and more. All the eerie effects are clearly explained and notated, so the only trouble you'll have is getting your students to stop playing it. It's a wild ride you won't want to miss! 2442739 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .56.00 5899455 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 9.00 Sea of Stars—Liam Ramsey-White. The "Sea of Stars" on the island of Vaadhoo in Maldives is famous for its unique bioluminescence. As the waves break against the shore, the water turns a sparkling blue, appearing as stars reflected in the water. The opening of this piece imitates the shimmering water as a nostalgic motif is presented by a solo cello over delicate harmonics and tremolo. The piece swells, ebbs, and flows with a beautiful theme that ends as quietly and magically as it started. 11401210 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .55.00 11401211 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 8.50 Serenade for String Orchestra—Norman Leyden.
