Water Reflections—Yukiko Nishimura.
A stunningly beautiful piece for the more
advanced ensemble, the melodies are
gorgeous and the harmonies are thick and
lush. There is nice interplay between all of
the sections of the orchestra that serve as
reflections in the water. The piece is contrasted
by a nice, lilting up-tempo section in the middle
before returning to the opening material to
bookend the piece.

Blaze—Erica Donahoe.
Just as the title suggests, this piece is all full of fire!
An opening theme in 3/4 with driving rhythms, heavy
accents, and dramatic dynamic shifts fuels the blaze. A
more lyrical B section in 4/4 with the cellos and violas
at the fore provides a great contrast. Players are given
the opportunity to reinforce both forward and backward
extensions as well as accented and off-the-bow strokes.
All sections get the opportunity to shine. A great opener!
