One Bow Concerto—Richard Meyer. Your
audience will laugh out loud! A violinist, a violist
and a cellist have soloist seats in front of the
orchestra, and they share just one bow, passing
it to one another just in the nick of time. The
orchestra is all pizzicato, so there really is only
one bow. "But a cellist shouldn't use a violin
bow," you think. Right, so they stop passing it
to him and the cellist shows what he thinks of
that! By the end the bow is in the hand of the
conductor. Recommended as a show-stopper!

it very flexible and perfect for any mix of
instruments. (1:40)

the golden sun, with easy meter changes and
a playful syncopated feel before ending with a
soft diminuendo.

Snowflake—Yukiko Nishimura. Floating
and delicate, this gorgeous piece features
long melody lines and plenty of sustaining
harmonies. It evokes the feeling of taking a

Springing—Peter Sciaino. This lively and
thematic selection utilizes repeated moving
eighth note figures that provide an excellent
opportunity for technique building at this level.
Inspired by Vivaldi's "Spring" (Concerto No. 1
in E major, Op. 8, RV 269), Springing serves
as an excellent conduit to the exploration of
the original masterwork. The joyous melody
and buoyant texture conjure images of the
season's earliest blooming flowers making it a
perfect choice for spring concerts!

Starchasers—Tanner Otto. A sequel to his
earlier work Sunchasers, Starchasers by Tanner
Otto is a dark, driving piece that makes B minor
accessible to younger players by carefully
avoiding any extensions in the violin, viola, and
cello parts. Its memorable themes, reminiscent
of a nighttime adventure, are spread across
all instruments. The middle section becomes
ethereal with the pizzicato in the viola, evoking
an image of twinkling stars. Starchasers is
a great teaching piece for 3/4 time and uses
low-2 and high-2 work to reinforce the 1-2 finger
pattern for intermediate students. (2:05)

Stone Mountain Stomp—Carl Strommen.
This one stands out in the "fiddle tune"
category. Carl Strommen has managed to take
some of the sounds of Southern fiddling and
mix them with a Western "Copland-esque" style
and make something really special. Another
great feature of this one is that the violas and
low strings all get a chance at some fiddling.
