HANDBELL MUSIC
Praise the Lord!—arr. Nicholas Hanson.
Enjoy this energetic arrangement of two
familiar hymns of praise: Praise to the Lord,
the Almighty and To God Be the Glory. With
rhythmic mallets in the bass, treble bells
play through the first tune. Then, to contrast,
handchimes (three octaves) play the second
tune. The third time is a blend of the two
melodies. This is accessible music for worship
that will lift both hearts and spirits.

Psalm 139—Fred Gramann. The language of
Psalm 139 assures us that God knows us and
is with us everywhere: "If I ascend to heaven
or make my bed in the depths, thou art there!"
This musical interpretation strives to be joyful
and confident, with melodic lines that rise,
then fall, only to rise again even higher. The
central section explores the relative minor key,
reflecting on the final two verses of the psalm
which invite God to search us, know us, and
lead us to higher ground.

Rhosymedre—Ralph Vaughan Williams/arr.
Carol Lynn Mizell. Rhosymedre (meaning
"lovely" in Welsh) is the name of a hymn tune
written in the 19th century, named after the
village of Rhosymedre in Wrexham, Wales.
The tune was used by Ralph Vaughan Williams
as the basis of the second movement of his
organ composition Three Preludes on Welsh
Hymn Tunes. A faithful transcription of that
organ piece, this arrangement may be played
by handbells and handchimes alone, but
optional flute and cello parts enhance Vaughan
Williams' beautiful setting.
