includes a solo for tenor sax, a soli for the saxes, and
a drum break. All the familiar lines from the original

as one of the greatest hard rock songs of all time,
this 1987 hit from Guns N' Roses features familiar
melodies and a relentless drive throughout. Paul
Murtha's hard-hitting arrangement uses the saxes on
the lead and the brass on the signature riffs, along with
terrific interplay within the ensemble. There's a brief
written or improvised solo for alto sax. Rock the stage
with this one! Highly recommended!

Alan Baylock. Alan Baylock sets this wonderful tune in
a sultry 12/8 groove played at about 72 bpm, making
it feel lazy and relaxed. There are no solos, just sweet
ensemble writing all the way. The lead trumpet range
is to A above the staff and optional parts are included
for expanded instrumentations. This outstanding chart
is an ideal contrasting piece for any performance!

Billie's Bounce—Charlie Parker/arr. John Wasson.
Here's an energetic big band treatment of one of
jazz legend Charlie Parker's best-known tunes. This
wonderfully crafted medium up-tempo swing chart
features an interplay between the sax and brass
sections along with solos for alto sax and trumpet.
Much of ensemble writing is adapted from Bird's
famous recorded solo.

C-Jam Blues—Duke Ellington/arr. Rick Stitzel.
Whether you know this one as C-Jam Blues or Duke's
Place, you sure will recognize all the great Ellington
writing! Even the most inexperienced bands can do a
fine performance on this jazz classic. The suggested
solos are included in the parts for the entire section, so
you can make it a soli feature if you prefer. There's a
marvelous ensemble tutti section that starts softly then
builds to the end.

Everyone will recognize this Duke Ellington classic!
It was one of the featured works in the 2014 movie
"Whiplash" and uses interesting textures and
alternates between a Latin groove and swing. This is a
very effective production number with limited technical
demands for young players.

Groove Merchant—Jerome Richardson/arr. Rich
Sigler. Made famous by the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis
band, this accessible version has a gospel rock
groove that fits perfectly. Played at about 132 bpm
with straight eighths, this chart is packed with goodies
like written-out solos for trombone and trumpet, a lead
trumpet range to written G on top of the staff, a few
clever modulations, and a great development section.
Toss in the optional parts to include vibes and you
have a fine chart. Groove Merchant is very effective at
any performance and is highly recommended!

In the Still of the Night—Cole Porter/arr. Mike Kamuf.
A classic jazz standard, this well-crafted chart bounces
between samba and swing grooves. The lead trumpet
range is to written B-flat above the staff, and there
are suggested solos for alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet,
trombone, and drums. The soli sections and a hot
shout chorus make this a fine choice for any concert
or festival.
