Won't You Be My Neighbor? (It's a Beautiful
Day in the Neighborhood)—Fred Rogers/arr.
Mike Tomaro. As the world reflects on one of its
most genuinely kind souls in the person of Mr.
Rogers, fellow Pittsburgh neighbor Mike Tomaro
pays tribute to Mr. Rogers' famous TV theme in
this laid-back samba setting. This is not juvenile
sounding, it's very sophisticated and hip, with
solos for tenor sax and trombone. This one will
have tremendous audience appeal!

You Can Call Me Al—Paul Simon/arr. Michele
Fernandez. Don't miss this fantastic arrangement
of the lead single from Paul Simon's acclaimed
album Graceland, recorded in 1986. The music
was inspired by Simon's trip to South Africa,
and this song went on to become one of his
biggest hits. This upbeat version gives it a great-
sounding groove and skillful interplay between
all sections of the band.

You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To (from
"Something to Shout About")—Cole Porter/
arr. Scott Ragsdale. A superb vocal chart with
big band on a great jazz standard. The cut-time
tempo is around 92 bpm. The vocal range is from
G below middle C to third-space C, plus there's
some unison scat with the saxes, too. Lead
trumpet range is to written A above the staff. An
exciting and very effective chart for your featured
vocalist. (2:50)

Celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month with these historic standards.
April in Paris—Vernon Duke/arr. Rick Stitzel.
Made famous by The Count Basie Orchestra, here is a great-sounding yet playable version
of this standard for developing bands. It includes feature spots for every section and optional
written or improvised solos for trumpet and trombone. This accessible chart maintains an
authentic sound even in this easy version. It will even sound full and complete with only 4 saxes,
3 trumpets, 3 trombones and rhythm! Also included are optional parts for flute, 2 clarinets, horn
in F and tuba. Highly recommended!

C-Jam Blues—Duke Ellington/arr. Rick Stitzel.
Whether you know this one as C-Jam Blues or Duke's Place, you sure will recognize all the great
Ellington writing! Even the most inexperienced bands can do a fine performance on this jazz classic.
The suggested solos are included in the parts for the entire section, so you can make it a soli feature
if you prefer. There's a marvelous ensemble tutti section that starts softly then builds to the end.

Flight of the Foo Birds—Neal Hefti/arr. Peter Blair.
This Peter Blair chart on the Neal Hefti/Count Basie classic is a wonderful adaptation for younger
jazz groups. It does its Basie thing with a light and cool swing feel, includes nice changes in
texture, has brief written or ad lib solos for alto sax and trumpet 2, and an outstanding shout
chorus with drum fills. Played at 156 bpm, the trumpet 1 range is up to written G on top of the
staff, and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations. Great tune, great chart!

I'm Beginning to See the Light—arr. Paul Baker.
This is a swinger all the way! The tempo can be anywhere between 132 - 150 bpm and there is a
written trumpet 2 solo. There's plenty of swingin' ensemble, a great sax section soli plus optional
parts for flute, clarinet, vibes, horn, baritone horn, and tuba. Add in trumpet plungers and sliding
trombones and it's all great stuff!

Peanut Vendor—arr. Tim Waters
With a classic mambo feel, this chart pays homage to this timeless Latin tune that's been
covered by many jazz legends. After the fanfare opening, the mambo groove is established
featuring a floating trumpet solo before the entire band joins in on the fun. The solo section
features space for written or ad-lib solos for alto, tenor, or trumpet. Next there is a great shout
chorus before recapping the main theme. This is sure to be your favorite Latin tune of the year!

Things Ain't What They Used to Be—Mercer Ellington/arr. Alan Baylock.
Mercer Ellington's classic blues shuffle gets the Baylock treatment! The style is down home and
the solos are for alto, trumpet, trombone, and tenor sax. Also included is a powerful Baylock-
style shout chorus and optional parts for expanded instrumentations. It's a fun chart and it gets
our highest recommendation!
