Everyone will recognize this Duke Ellington classic! It was one of the featured works in the 2014 movie "Whiplash" and uses interesting textures and alternates between a Latin groove and swing. This is a very effective production number with limited technical demands for young players. 2307627 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . E 45.00 Groove Merchant—Jerome Richardson/arr. Rich Sigler. Made famous by the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis band, this accessible version has a gospel rock groove that fits perfectly. Played at about 132 bpm with straight eighths, this chart is packed with goodies like written-out solos for trombone and trumpet, a lead trumpet range to written G on top of the staff, a few clever modulations, and a great development section. Toss in the optional parts to include vibes and you have a fine chart. Groove Merchant is very effective at any performance and is highly recommended! 10593765 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . ME 52.00 In the Mood—Joe Garland/arr. Michael Sweeney. This one's a must! Glenn Miller's big band classic is one of the best known tunes from the swing era, and Mike's excellent arrangement puts it within reach of young bands. Comfortable ranges, easy rhythm patterns and written solos make this a perfect choice to teach your students how to swing! 2314268 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . E 45.00 Jumpin' at the Woodside—Count Basie/arr. Rich DeRosa. This one just builds and builds! Rich DeRosa keeps this Count Basie signature tune swinging all the way and includes two optional tag endings to keep the Basie style intact. The solos are written out for piano, tenor sax, trumpet and trombone and the lead trumpet range is to written G on top of the staff with an A on the optional tag ending. Optional parts are included for expanded instrumentation. One of the Count's finest! 10028198 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . ME 62.00 Mamacita—Joe Henderson/arr. Alan Baylock. A groovy straight-eighth feel on this jazz standard with amazing parts for all and an intro that is nothing but fire. The tempo is around 154 bpm, and the lead trumpet range is to written B-flat above the staff. Sample solos are provided for alto and tenor sax, plus optional flute and vibes parts. Energy prevails! 11511951 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . M 55.00 Peanut Vendor—arr. Tim Waters. With a classic mambo feel, this chart pays homage to this timeless Latin tune that's been covered by many jazz legends. After the fanfare opening, the mambo groove is established featuring a floating trumpet solo before the entire band joins in on the fun. The solo section features space for written or ad-lib solos for alto, tenor, or trumpet. Next there is a great shout chorus before recapping the main theme. This is sure to be your favorite Latin tune of the year! 11572328 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . E 55.00 Sing, Sing, Sing—Louis Prima/trans. Mike Lewis. Here it is...perhaps the most recognizable swing tune of all time! This chart is scored for a standard 5 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones and rhythm, but aside from that, it is the original as played by Benny Goodman. Every lick is there, including all the Gene Krupa drum breaks! This chart is a must for every big band's library! 2411486 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . M 62.00 Sing, Sing, Sing—Louie Prima/arr. Victor Lopez. Yep, this is the Sing, Sing, Sing you know and love, made famous by Gene Krupa and the Benny Goodman Orchestra, only arranged for young players by Victor Lopez. The classic drum solo that can be opened up for as much excitement as the crowd can stand, along with a written-out tenor solo, reasonable brass ranges and lots of meaty ensembles keep this great chart exciting. It will also sound full with reduced instrumentation or with the optional, non-jazz band parts. It's still a showstopper! Highly recommended! 2702806 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . ME 52.00 Song for My Father—Horace Silver/arr. Mark Taylor. One of the best-known standards by Horace Silver, this arrangement features a light Latin style and recognizable melody along with the signature bass riff. The easy changes make it perfect for soloists, with a superb groove for the entire group. 11571998 Combo. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . E 40.00 Song for My Father—Horace Silver/arr. Paul Murtha.
