CONCERT WORKS
After the Wind—Nicholas Ryan Kelly. With long,
sweeping phrases and exaggerated dynamic
contrast, this setting of a Marjorie Pickthall
poem will transport singers and listeners alike
to a dream world. The journey of a bird from
flight to rest is brought to life with modal with
impressionistic influences. At times passionate
and full, and at others gentle and intimate,
sensitivity is required of singers to draw out the
most of each musical phrase.
