The Bowl of Light—Penny Rodriguez.
For many generations, the Hawaiians have
passed down a fascinating and profound
concept that every child is born with a
perfect bowl of light that represents their
identity. Mixed choirs can explore this tale

we want our children to emulate. A tranquil

E. Wagner. William Boyce's beautiful

Breathe (She Sat at the Back)—
Jeremy Landig. Speaking to the need for
acceptance and understanding of others,

retreats to nature in order to find peace.

spiral to calm serenity as the character
journeys through life.

Breaths—Ysaye M. Barnwell. As recorded
by Sweet Honey in the Rock, this
a cappella work is one of Barnwell's earliest
compositions and contains many signatures
of her compositional style, particularly the
layering of ostinati throughout. Setting a
text adapted from Birago Diop's poetry,
the work is about our ancestors being ever
present even after death. Newly updated
by a scholarly committee dedicated to Dr.
Barnwell's works, this work is available
in two separate voicings rather than
the original SATB or SSA voicing. The
SSATB voicing is in the original key of D
major, while the SSAA voicing has been
transposed up a fourth to G major and
places alto 2 in the treble clef rather than
in the bass clef of the original.

repetitive rhythms and a text your singers
will love. "Come, old Sun! Let's make a
bright new day!"

Papoulis. In a rollicking 6/8 meter, this

part, and a unison whistling section make
this uplifting selection easy to learn and fun
to sing.
