The Royal Hawaiian—Robert W. Smith.
This fine original march composed in a
classic American style is based on the
famous Aloha Oe composed by Queen
Liliuokalani in 1878. Featuring American
military percussion as well as traditional
Hawaiian instruments including optional
conch shell, the blend of musical textures
creates an unusual yet familiar march
setting. If Sousa had surfed, we believe this
is what he would have heard!

Big Sky March—R. Alan Carter. Premiered
at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North
Carolina, this march describes the beautiful
mountain views that gave Asheville its
nickname, "Land of the Sky." Written in
the traditional style of Fillmore marches,
the piece features exciting parts for all
instruments. Flurries of woodwinds and
brass flourishes depict the pageantry of
a festival, and repeated arpeggios and
chromatic scales represent each of the two
ensembles that performed the piece as part
of a Memorial Day celebration.

Cosmopolitan America—Helen May
Butler/arr. Clarence Barber. Helen May
Butler was one of the most successful
female conductors in the history of the
concert band. Band music was a favorite

Navy, and perhaps the most popular. His
bands were celebrated across the United
States during his years of service, and he
eventually rose to political prominence in
the U.S. Virgin Islands. Add this wonderful

The New Corn Palace (March)—Karl
King/arr. Gene Milford. The New Corn
Palace is a famous attraction in Mitchell,
South Dakota. Originally built to house
the annual community harvest festival, the
ornate building opened in 1921 and became
a premier venue for area symphonies and
concert bands. Fort Dodge (Iowa) Band
rang in the inaugural celebration, under
the direction of Karl King, who composed
this work for the occasion. In keeping
with King's circus march tradition, a bold
D minor introduction and first strain lead
to a contrasting F major second strain,
lyrical trio, and minor key break strain. This
edition condenses the five original trumpet
parts into three parts and rescores the
saxophones to meet modern standards,
with additional percussion editing.

The Ringmaster—Jon Bubbett. A spirited,
fun-loving march written in the circus style
of the late 1800s and early 1900s - its happy
and carefree energy brings back memories
of three-ring circuses, trapeze artists, and
clowns. As the master of ceremonies, the
ringmaster - decked out in a bright red
tailcoat trimmed in gold and a black top
hat - directed the crowd's attention to the
various rings where the acts took place,
building excitement for each new act. Relive
the frenetic energy of the circus: for "ladies
and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of
all ages!" (2:30)
11568560 Band Set & Score. . . . . .90.00
Toy Soldier Marches—Marsha Chusmir
Shapiro. This medley of classic toy
soldier marches is perfect for any concert,
including holiday performances. Featuring
Parade of the Wooden Soldiers; March of
the Toys; Toy Soldier March and March of
the Wooden Soldiers from Tchaikovsky's
"Nutcracker Suite," it's an excellent vehicle
to introduce and teach your ensembles
about the classical style needed to interpret
literature of this time period, especially the
approach to rhythmic accuracy, melodic
interpretation, and balance.
11399565 Band Set & Score. . . . . .75.00
The Wild One! (Circus March)—Brian
Balmages. A blistering circus march
designed to showcase your entire
ensemble. This adrenaline-packed
work will bring your audience to its feet
regardless of where you program it in
your concert. Cleverly combining the
traditional march form with contemporary
elements, this barnburner is sure to turn
heads and be a ton of fun for performers
and audiences alike. There are plenty of
opportunities for percussionists, including
several optional parts for directors with
larger sections. (2:40)

Xerxes—John Mackey. A concert
march unlike any march you've heard
before! While most marches can be
categorized by traditional performance
traits, the best description here is
"angry!" The sheer power and aggressive
nature of the music brings a somewhat evil
element and entirely new perspective to
traditional marches. Explosive!
