Riddle Me That—Joe Snyder. This
medium-up swing chart was written
for the 2024 Tennessee All-State Jazz

after the solos that makes this chart
something special!

Sandu—Clifford Brown/arr. Chris Sharp.
Clifford Brown's Sandu has long been a
jam-session staple for anyone that wants
to shred some E-flat blues. Chris Sharp
delivers great ensemble writing that really
swings in the chart's blow section. The
familiar melody is featured with a trumpet
and tenor sax duet at the top of the tune
and returns with the duet at the end.
Sandu also includes written or improvised
solos for tenor sax and trumpet with a
great "rhythm out" interlude between the
solos. As if that isn't enough, there's an
excellent sax section soli and a roaring
shout chorus before the recap! Our
highest recommendation!

Scott Road Sprint—Craig Skeffington/
arr. Terry White. An up-tempo swing chart
composed for the 2024 Maine All-State
Honors Jazz Ensemble. This dynamic
piece combines bebop lines with big band
swing. This chart performs well at a variety
of tempos, ensuring it sounds great even at
a medium-up groove.

Secret Love—Sammy Fain/arr. Dave
Wolpe. Featuring the trombone section,
Dave Wolpe's chart on Secret Love just
cooks and cooks! All four trombone parts
have written-out solo sections, there's
plenty of section work and nice ensembles
too. The lead 'bone range is to high Bb
and lead trumpet is to written B above
the staff. This is an accessible and terrific
chart to showcase your trombones.
Highly recommended! Optional expanded
instrumentation.

Shiny Stockings—Frank Foster/arr. Greg
Yasinitsky. Frank Foster's composition
Shiny Stockings is one of the greatest jazz
tunes ever for big band. Arranged by Greg
Yasinitsky and scored at an accessible
level, this chart has all the ingredients you
expect plus a few short section solis and an
ensemble shout chorus. This arrangement
stays very close to the original, yet is more
accessible for developing groups. Other
features include a written solo for 2nd
trumpet with the lead trumpet range to written
A above the staff. This Basie classic belongs
in every jazz library! Highly recommended!
Optional expanded instrumentation.

Sing, Sing, Sing—Louis Prima/trans.
Mike Lewis. Here it is...perhaps the
most recognizable swing tune of all time!
This incredible transcription is as close
as you're going to come to the original
(which included clarinet and less than a
full compliment of brass). This chart is
scored for a standard 5 saxes, 4 trumpets,
4 trombones and rhythm, but aside from
that, it is the original as played by Benny
Goodman. Every lick is there, including all
the Gene Krupa drum breaks! This chart is
a must for every big band's library!
2411486 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 62.00
Sister Sadie—Horace Silver/arr. Bryan
Kidd. Experience this hard-bop style work
that really gets things kickin'. The saxes
open with the famous head and this chart
has been made more accessible, yet
remains true to the original. There are
a wealth of performance suggestions
included to make this chart work at many
ability levels. Containing all the elements
of Horace Silver's original tune, this
arrangement can be opened up to feature
more soloists than just the tenor (provided
with a written solo and changes). A sax soli
feature helps to bring this one home! An
outstanding arrangement of a jazz standard!

Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise—
Sigmund Romberg/arr. Paul Baker. Paul
Baker's take on this wonderful Sigmund
Romberg standard is very exciting right off
the top! It switches between straight-eighth
and relaxed swing feels at around 150 bpm.
The creative and tasty features include a
written trumpet 1 solo on flugelhorn, written
or improvised solos for trumpet and tenor,
an outstanding sax soli, and a solo for
drums over a horns interlude. The set also
includes an auxiliary percussion part and
optional parts for flute and vibes. Highly
recommended for any performance and
especially for contests and festivals!

Someone to Watch over Me—George
Gershwin/arr. Ellen Rowe. You can't
go wrong with George Gershwin, and
this masterful arrangement has done
a spectacular job of taking the genius
melody of this classic tune and crafting
a subtle and sophisticated chart. The
arrangement moves from a straight
eighth-note feel to a jazz waltz before
melting into a lovely bossa. Everything
about this chart just feels perfect.
11561649 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 55.00
Sooner or Later—Peter Blair. Based on
the chord changes to "There Will Never
Be Another You," this swing chart has
something for everyone! After the intro,
the horns have some harmonized lines
without the rhythm section. There are some
dramatic dynamic changes that show the
soft side of the band. There's a swingin' Sax
soli and a section towards the end that hints
at the original "There Will Never Be Another
You" melody as the horns trade fours with
the rhythm section.
11615115 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 55.00
Splanky—Neal Hefti/arr. Sammy Nestico.
For years, directors have been waiting for
the release of the original Basie version of
this great blues classic. It's full of Sammy's
unique ensemble writing and has plenty of
room for blues solos.

Stompin' at the Savoy—arr. Greg
Yasinitsky. After the initial statement, Greg
Yasinitsky gives this Benny Goodman
treasure an updated and contemporary flair
while remaining true to the original. It's all
there in this exciting chart... nice dynamic
contrasts, a stop-time section, a sax
section soli, ensemble interludes, a written
or improvised trumpet 2 solo, and it's all
played around 168 bpm. The lead trumpet
range is to written B-flat above the staff and
optional parts are included for expanded
instrumentations. Solid with proven appeal!
10513990 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . 52.00
Streetlight Shuffle—Drew Zaremba. The
evolution of this chart is epic! It grows
from a whisper to a roar, with everything
in between along the way. Think Gordon
Goodwin meets the Bunny Hop with some
musical zaniness built in.

Summertime (from "Porgy and Bess")—
George Gershwin/arr. Dave Rivello.
This medium swing trumpet solo feature
contains tons of jazz substance! Arranger
Dave Rivello captures the distinctive
Miles Davis-Harmon Mute sound in this
outstanding chart that features both the
band and soloist "a la Miles." The trumpet
2 solo part goes to written F on the top line,
and the lead trumpet goes to written A.
Highly recommended!

Sweet Tea—Paul Baker. Based on the
chord changes from Stanley Turrentine's
classic tune Sugar, this bluesy swing chart
shows off the full range of your ensemble's
style, dynamics, and swagger. Opening with
a powerful ensemble statement, the melody
follows with an alto/trumpet unison when
the ante is abruptly upped by the brass
announcing their presence. Sixteen bars
of sax soli are followed by solos (written
solos provided). A powerful shout section is
followed by a group improvisation section,
which leads to a recap of the intro and a
strong finish. Trumpet range to written high
C. Trombone to G. Piano and bass parts
are written out.

Switch in Time (Full Score Edition)—
Sammy Nestico. Another hit from the Basie
Straight Ahead album is this driving swinger
in F minor. This chart gives the band a great
chance to really play soft and make a huge
build over an entire phrase to a fortissimo.
The music needs to be played with some
serious attitude to make this piece soar.

Take Five—Paul Desmond/arr. Rich
DeRosa. Perhaps the most famous time
chart of all, Take Five is in 5/4 - but the
rhythmic pattern is clear and consistent
throughout. You'll find this arrangement
very accessible, with easy alto sax and
drum solos plus modest brass ranges.
This chart features a more laid-back style
than the original and is sure to be just as
important today as was in the 1960s.
Recommended for every jazz enthusiast!
