Media vita—Kerensa Briggs. Commissioned
to celebrate 500 years since the birth of English
Renaissance composer John Sheppard, this
piece draws inspiration from the expansiveness
and the intensity found within Sheppard's famous
setting. The meaning of the text from Antiphona de
Morte is artfully expressed through rich harmonic
language and reflective sonority. "In the midst of
life we are in death."

Memento Rerum (Op. 3, 1670)—Isabella
Leonarda/ed. Andrew Bruhn. Written as a canon
by the historically underrepresented composer
Isabella Leonarda, the soprano and tenor parts
are identical, as are the alto and bass parts. This
beautiful work offers an excellent introduction to
polyphony and is suitable for any time of the year.

Miracles—J.D. Frizzell. An artistic, free-flowing
setting of an Elizabeth Rooney text, this concert
work for mixed or treble choir offers a modern
harmonic touch. Shifting meters and tonality give it
a meterless feel, while the speech-driven melodic
writing highlights the insightful lyrics.

Henry Mackay, this late Romantic solo lied was
one of Strauss' most well known. Adapted here
for mixed choirs with optional string quartet, the

melody with its expressive piano accompaniment
are preserved from the original.
