Editors' Choice New Basic Library A Cappella Available via ePrint Downloadable All Prices in U.S. Dollars & Subject To Publisher Revision 124 Blues & Swing | Medium Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy—Raye & Prince/arr. Stephen Bulla. Originally a hit back in 1941 for the Andrews Sisters, this classic has stood the test of time and is hard to beat for its entertainment value. This updated version has all the excitement of the original and the ranges are moderate for the trumpets. There are solos for trumpet and baritone sax in this outstanding chart that will appeal to your audiences and ensemble. Get out the saddle oxfords, bobby socks and pleated skirts for this one! 2481643 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Boplicity—Davis & Evans/arr. Mike Tomaro. The landmark album by Miles Davis, Birth Of The Cool, introduced the unique sound of the nonet instrumentation. Without straying from the intent of the music, and working directly with the original score, Mike Tomaro has adapted this tune from the album for standard instrumentation, making it accessible to today's jazz ensembles. The style is laid-back swing, and it includes solos for baritone sax, trumpet and piano, as in the original version. A jazz standard for your library! 2701398 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Bye Bye Blackbird—Ray Henderson/ arr. Rich Sigler. This swinging chart is a great vehicle for a tenor sax soloist with jazz band. The solo part ranges from written melody to a written jazz solo, all very accessible, and it especially swings when the tenor soloist trades fours with the ensemble. The ensemble and soloist are equally featured throughout. The lead trumpet range is to written G top of staff and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentation. A great jazz standard for developing jazz groups! 10997194 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 50.00 Chrysanthum—Bob Turner. Rooted in a minor-key swing, this medium jazz chart pairs lighter textures with gradually intensifying ensemble moments drawn from classic swing tradition. The moderate tempo supports stylistic focus, while a suggested alto sax solo keeps soloing approachable for developing players. Scoring allows the band to build confidence without sacrificing impact. A solid high school selection that gives students a satisfying swing experience they can perform with authority. 11686530 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 50.00 Count Bubba—Gordon Goodwin/arr. Paul Murtha. Paul Murtha has adapted this monster chart from Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band to an easier level while maintaining all the intensity and drive of the original. The trombones take the lead at the top followed by the trumpets then saxes, until finally the entire ensemble cuts loose. It includes suggested or improvised solos for trumpet and alto saxophone. Exceptional sounds for developing players! Highly recommended! 10052541 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 50.00 Crazy Rhythm—Joseph Meyer & Roger Wolfe Kahn/arr. Ralph Nancy. Up-tempo swing energy drives this hard-hitting jazz chart, keeping the momentum high from start to finish. Melodic variation gives the music a fresh, forward-moving feel throughout. Strong section solis, featured solo space for trumpet and tenor, and a powerful shout chorus make it an exciting showcase. Well suited to high school ensembles, the chart delivers classic swing excitement with punch and sophistication. 11687289 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Dat Dere—Bobby Timmons/arr. Erik Morales. A soulful tune with a catchy title and melody! Erik Morales captures composer Bobby Timmons' medium swing groove. At a moderate tempo, with a slightly mysterious intro, the saxes grab the melody and it builds from there. A written (or ad lib) alto solo is provided with a fat shout chorus. This is an outstanding chart in every respect! Highly recommended! 10277767 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 The Defibrillator—Adrien Re. Nothing makes you get into a groove like a shuffle and this one has a fierce back-beat that will hook you right at the top! A very hip melody line, written-out solos for tenor sax and 1st trombone, lead trumpet range to written A above the staff and a power-house shout chorus are but a few of the features. A hot bari sax part, too! This is nothing but fun to play! Optional expanded instrumentation. 10093163 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 52.00 Fables of Faubus—Charles Mingus/arr. Sy Johnson. Here's the classic Mingus chart in a version from the Simply Mingus series that exudes a sense of anger and sarcasm and definitely projects an edginess. The baritone sax and bass trombone will have fun with the opening, and there's plenty for the rest of the band to get excited about in this medium swing romp. Includes suggested solos and optional parts for flute, clarinet and French horn. 10033671 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Fly Me to the Moon—Bart Howard/arr. Allen Gray. Oh, jazz standards just don't get any better than Bart Howard's Fly Me to the Moon! This chart pays homage to the great Count Basie band and their iconic version with Frank Sinatra. With a subtle swingin' opening, this chart builds into a big tutti section before there's room for improvised solos. Finally, the band enters again to swing it hard all the way to the end. This one's got to be in your jazz library. Highly recommended! 10752071 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 65.00 Full Steamin'—Dave Hanson. Wow! This chart swings from top to bottom. The vibe of Don Menza's tune for Buddy Rich Groovin' Hard is at the heart of this new chart. It's a great opener or closer for a festival performance! 11615252 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Haitian Fight Song—Charles Mingus/arr. Andrew Homzy. Featuring a dark intensity and a powerful unison riff figure in minor, this medium swing chart is a great showcase for your bass player as well as the trombone section. The harmonic structure is quite simple, but the depth of the arrangement comes from the thematic layers that are continually added throughout. Written solo (or soli) sections are included for the trombones and trumpets as well as notated piano voicings and bass lines. The brass ranges are moderate and optional parts are included for flute, clarinet and F horn. Here is an exciting Mingus gem for your band! Highly recommended! 10005180 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 Hay Burner (Full Score Edition)—Sammy Nestico. Sammy Nestico loved horses, and many of the titles he chose for his music reflect that love – Hay Burner is a perfect example. Aside from being a no-nonsense straight-ahead swing chart, there is also a tip of the hat to country music. As with all of Sammy's music, there is ample opportunity to show off the dynamic shadings that are available in a big band. 11576718 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 60.00 Hey Ho, Nobody Home—arr. Samuel A. Livingston. Dark, driving energy anchors this high school-level jazz chart built on a hard swing groove. The melody moves through the ensemble in featured soli passages, occasionally unfolding in a round to create a unique layering effect. Strong sectional writing keeps all players engaged, offering a satisfying blend of rhythmic intensity, style reinforcement, and ensemble interplay great for any concert program. 11678113 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 60.00 Hey Pachuco!—arr. Shane Porter. Your students and audiences will love this burning swing tune made famous by Royal Crown Revue. The groove is set up with a drum solo laying down a Sing, Sing, Sing Krupa feel before the band enters. A trumpet with plunger solo leads into a sax soli section. Next, the trumpet section is featured on a soli section before a half-time feel gives the brass a chance to shine. Returning to the original groove, a written solo for tenor sax heightens the excitement. Finally, there's an open drum solo before the band enters and takes it on home. Pure excitement! 10050989 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 How High the Moon—Morgan Lewis/ arr. Dave Wolpe. Now this is classy! Dave Wolpe puts the trombones out front in this solid swinger, and boy do they sound great carrying the tune! This sits comfortably for bands at the medium level, and three of your bone players get a chance to solo, with suggested solos offered. What a great chart! 2472224 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 52.00 Hurricane Season—Troy Andrews/arr. John Wasson. From the Trombone Shorty CD Backatown, this tune features the powerful underlying pulse of a New Orleans second line feel along with elements of contemporary rock. There's written or improvised solo space for trumpet. In this exciting chart, the ensemble alternately screams with the full band riffs, then settles into a simmering rhythmic groove. Also included are written bass lines and piano voicings. A real treat to perform and hear! 10490297 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 I Left My Heart in San Francisco—arr. Quincy Jones. Quincy Jones wrote some incredible arrangements on very popular tunes for the Count Basie Orchestra. As recorded on This Time By Basie, Quincy's arrangement of I Left My Heart in San Francisco features great interplay between the ensemble playing the melody, and the piano with written solo fills. With a tempo around 108 bpm, and a relaxed swing feel, there's also short solo space for tenor saxophone, and the ranges are very moderate. This chart is playable by a lot of bands. It's a true classic! Highly recommended! 10368506 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 I Mean You—Monk & Hawkins/arr. Mike Tomaro. Written by Thelonious Monk and Coleman Hawkins, this chart features a freewheeling, New Orleans-style street beat alternating with straight-ahead swing. Mike Tomaro's setting is unique and creative on this Monk classic. Trumpet and tenor share the melody, and solo space is included for trombone and piano with suggested solos included. Highly recommended! 10033678 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 I Will Wait For You—Michel Legrand/ arr. Mark Taylor. Originally composed for the French musical "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" and recorded by many great artists including Connie Francis and Cher, this swinging arrangement for vocals and jazz band seamlessly weaves in and out of a half-time swing/swing feel. It features a great instrumental break and a brief trumpet 2 solo. Key of A minor and B-flat minor. 11617953 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 In the Mood—Joe Garland. This Glenn Miller classic is a must for every jazz band library! Carefully edited and available with a full score, this arrangement has everything you need to recreate the original including a trumpet solo, and a short call-and-response passage between the alto and tenor saxes. It's a guaranteed crowd-pleaser! 2090959 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 In Your Own Sweet Way—Dave Brubeck/ arr. Annie Booth. Check out this gorgeous Brubeck melody set in an easy swing groove around 120 BPM. Featuring your lead alto player on the melody with suggested written-out solo space. Lead trumpet range is to A above the staff, and all the usual optional parts, including flute and vibes. A tasty chart! (3:15) 11619665 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 55.00 It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)—Duke Ellington/arr. Ralph Ford. You may think this very clever chart is all swing, but it begins as Latin then alternates with a swing feel. The tempo is bright at around 190-200 bpm with suggested solos for trumpet and tenor sax, a few piano montunos, and a big shout chorus leading to a huge ending closing this fine chart appropriately. Additional wind parts and a vibes part are included for optional expanded instrumentations. Highly recommended! 10756380 Jazz Ensemble . . . . M 50.00 Look for our Basic Library while you shop.
