Bass trombone players can count on one hand the good charts available for their instrument. Well, here is one of the best yet – arranged in the style of the great George Roberts. With a medium-swing feel, this showcase tune will bring out the best in your bass trombone player with no improvisation, just written melody. There is some written or improvised jazz for second trumpet in Harmon mute, and the lead trumpet has a unison line to written high E. A nice sax soli is the icing on the cake. An outstanding feature chart! 10071915 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 60.00 Milestones (1948)—arr. John La Barbera. A modern big-band treatment of one of Miles Davis' most iconic works. The music channels the hard-driving bebop swing style with sharp off-beat accents, fast tempo, angular ensemble figures, and plenty of space to invite strong improvisers to stretch out and take risks. A challenging, high-energy chart that rewards confident soloists and fuels a memorable performance. 11678473 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 65.00 Moanin'—Charles Mingus/arr. Sy Johnson. This is an awesome Mingus double-time swing chart in the original version as recorded on the Mingus Big Band 93 CD. It kicks off with a hot bari sax intro, features some really tight licks, an extended open solo section, and an infectious bari sax line that drives the whole piece. Serious jazz for serious bands! 2388650 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 65.00 Moment's Notice—John Coltrane/arr. Alan Baylock. Alan Baylock crafts a great swinger on one of Coltrane's brilliant compositions. Set around 208 bpm, this chart includes solo space for alto and tenor and a lead trumpet range to written high C. A big shout chorus and sax soli complete the package. Outstanding chart! 10452152 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 60.00 My Foolish Heart—Victor Young/arr. Alan Baylock. Feature your trumpet 2 player on this superb ballad arrangement. Opening with a lush rubato section and then shifting into a double-time section, this piece will show off the strengths of your group. This is a fantastic addition to your library! 11400558 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 52.00 Norwegian Wood—Lennon & McCartney/ arr. Bill Holman. Buddy Rich's band recorded this Beatles tune, and it is one of Holman's best-known charts. Treated as a jazz waltz, full of excitement and energy, it features solos for alto sax and trombone. Lots of raw power and blistering figures make this the ideal concert opener or closer! 2471103 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 60.00 Nothin' but the Truth—Debra Stempien & Gregory Turner. A medium-tempo swing chart emphasizing extensive melodic interplay between the sections of your jazz ensemble. The saxes are featured in a soli that is fun for players while demonstrating both the sound and feel of drop-two voicing. All horn parts include chord changes for optional improvising during the solo section, while optional composed solos are included for trombone and trumpet. A fun and joyful selection for high school jazz ensembles with developed technique and confidence. 11686208 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 60.00 Ornithology—Parker & Harris/arr. Greg Yasinitsky. Greg Yasinitsky has set Charlie Parker's great bebop tune to swing at about 172 – 200 bpm. Featuring plenty of excellent sax section solis, brass solis, solo spaces (suggested written solos included) for tenor sax, and piano, this is fine big band swing chart on a great tune. The lead trumpet range goes up to written B-flat above the staff and optional flute and vibraphone parts are included. This is essential jazz repertoire, and this chart is very highly recommended! 10355616 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 52.00 Proove Your Groove—Alan Baylock. Yes, it's funky in many ways! Performed around 88 bpm, the groove is deep and full of harmonic colors start to finish. Lead trumpet range to written high C, solos are for trombone 1 with a suggested written- out solo, and for drum set. Optional parts included for vibes and flute. Although there is no written percussion part, adding congas is suggested. This is festival material! (5:00) 11619662 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 62.00 Shiny Stockings—Frank Foster/arr. Sammy Nestico. As recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra, here is Sammy Nestico's classic chart on this Frank Foster jazz standard! Featuring all the signature piano stylings, muted brass on the first strain, a sax soli, a trumpet solo, and a shout chorus that roars, this timeless chart deserves a place in every band's library! 10052507 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 65.00 Sing Sang Sung—Gordon Goodwin. This monster chart takes its cues from Sing Sing Sing and goes right over the top! Not many tunes can match the energy of that big band classic, but this one sure does. You'll know it from Gordon Goodwin's Grammy- nominated CD Swingin' for the Fences, and it is one very hot chart! 2470788 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 65.00 Stay in Your Lane—Gordon Goodwin. More accessible than most Gordon Goodwin charts, Stay in Your Lane is a hard-hitting, good-time shuffle groove played at about 135 bpm. There's lots of call and response between sections, a swingin' shout chorus, and suggested solos are included for C, B-flat, and E-flat instruments and trombone. Of course, improvised solos are an option. An auxiliary percussion part plus optional flute and vibraphone parts are also included. Infectious, fun, and highly recommended! 11199000 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 54.00 Sugar (As Recorded by the Bob Florence New Edition)—Stanley Turrentine/arr. Bob Florence. A high-energy swing tune with fast tempo, layered horn writing, and bold solos. It builds gradually from rhythm section to full ensemble, with dynamic shifts, counterpoint, and shout choruses leading to a dramatic finish. 11637043 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 85.00 Swamp—Rick Hirsch. This is the B-flat minor blues chart your band has been waiting for: it's saucy, grungy, humorous, and at times delightfully raucous. The shout chorus is over the top, and anyone can solo on its bare-bones chord progression. Your players will have fun making swampy sounds during the opening and closing segments of the tune. Rhythm section parts are notated as needed, and several alternate parts are included in the set. This chart is a winner for concerts and festivals. 11622317 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 62.00 THAT Escalated Quickly...—Craig Skeffing- ton. Here is a vibrant big band bebop chart that showcases a number of soloists as well as the full ensemble. This piece shines new light on rhythm changes, making it an ideal choice to open or close a festival performance. 11615257 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 60.00 Uncommon Zentz—Mike Tomaro. Advanced rhythmic layering and complex harmony define this advanced jazz ensemble swing chart written at an up- tempo pace of quarter note = 220. Technical melodic material passes through the band while extended improvisation space for alto saxophone and trumpet stretches advanced soloists. Brief shifts to straight-eighth feel and 2/2 add a unique structural contrast. This is a demanding selection for accomplished groups seeking an exploratory swing chart that challenges rhythmic precision, ensemble coordination, and improvisational depth. 11678964 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 60.00 Well You Needn't—Thelonious Monk/arr. Mike Kamuf. This chart kicks! It's a shuffle at around 166 bpm and is a feature for two tenor saxes. This is not a duel, but a vehicle to showcase both tenor players. Sample tenor solos are provided, the lead trumpet range is to written high C-sharp, there's a great sax soli and a roaring shout chorus. Optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations. Pure excitement and great for festivals! 10513924 Jazz Ensemble . . .MA 55.00 Blues & Swing Advanced Big Dipper—Thad Jones.
