4 MetamorphosisAndrew Boysen, Jr. The title
refers to the transformation of a caterpillar into a
butterfly. The piece opens with a beautiful statement
which then morphs into something new in the
faster middle section. The triumphant final section
emerges with lively percussion and ensemble
swells, simulating the butterfly getting ready to take
flight. This imaginative work ends peacefully as the
butterfly floats off into the distance.

Infectious rhythms and tuneful melodies are
highlighted by driving percussion riffs, propelling
the music through a variety of styles, moods and
textures. The title is a play on the words "matrix,"
which refers to an array of numbers, and
"metric," which relates to the variety of meters
used in the piece.

l Mozart: Symphony No. 29 (First Movement)
W.A. Mozart/arr. David Bobrowitz. David
Brobrowitz deftly transcribes the first movement of
Mozart's "Symphony No. 29 in A, K. 201" (1774).
Mr. Bobrowitz transposes the theme up to the more
comfortable key of B-flat and adds dynamics, slurs,
and articulations to help young musicians capture
the style of the Classical period.

All the Pretty Little Horses—arr. Andrew Boysen, Jr.
The second movement of "Three Folk Song Settings for
Band," this hauntingly beautiful setting provides a lyrical
contrast to the two outer movements. The touching lullaby,
thought to be of African-American origin, is displayed in a
way that is both memorable and well crafted.

Ave Maria—Anton Bruckner/arr. Mark Reid.
The beauty and austerity of this sacred choral work is
captured beautifully for band by the arranger. Given the tone
colors available in the modern wind ensemble, Bruckner's
brilliant blend of Renaissance-sounding melodic lines with
chromaticism and the harmonic language of the Romantic era
make this transcription an appropriate extension of Bruckner's
musical tastes. Enrich your students' musicality by engaging
with this spiritually uplifting, authentic transcription.

Carrickfergus—arr. Patrick Roszell. This Irish folksong,
named after the town of Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland, is
beautiful, nostalgic and lush. This intimate arrangement with
ample cross-cueing is an excellent tool to teach phrasing

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing—
arr. Randall Standridge.
The arranger chose this reverent,
yet somewhat sad-sounding hymn to arrange for band in
honor of the life and influence of his grandmother, who
passed away in 2012. Moving from moments of quiet beauty
though hugely magnificent waves of sound, this powerful
arrangement is a great example of the expressiveness and
power that can be achieved by a fine concert band work.
The final statement of the hymn tune melody by a solo
clarinet wraps up this memorable hymn tune arrangement in
a reverent, quiet way.

Consolation—Noah D. Taylor. Consolation is chorale-
like and passionately evokes the emotions one endures
when they find a source of comfort in a time of suffering
or grief. Representing the complex emotions of the human
condition, are juxtapositioned moments of quiet solace,
building tension, and immense emotional release.

'E' for Eternity—Gary P. Gilroy. A moving work written
for, and dedicated to, the memory of a young student and
classmate. The musical material alternates between flowing
melodic lines and powerful ensemble climaxes, then quickly
subsides to softly floating phrases. These contrasts reflect
the contrasting emotions that one experiences in tragedy
such as this.

How Deep The Father's Love For Us—
Anthony LaBounty.
This timeless British hymn tune is
melodious and alluring; equal to the text that is rich in poetic
language that fully expresses the ultimate love of a father.
This poignant setting for band purposely borrows vignettes
of imagery recognized in Appalachian Spring among other
orchestration elements. Extremely moving!

In Endless Song—Robert Lowry/
arr. Randall D. Standridge.
The lyrics and music of this
hymn express a true feeling of inner peace and joy that
is displayed with little or no alteration, letting the natural
beauty of the melodic line speak for itself. Band composers
have long used hymn tunes as the basis for compositions,
creating a large and rich repertoire of hymn song settings,
and this wonderfully musical arrangement is a welcome
addition to that body of works.

The Red Covered Bridge—Robert Sheldon.
A red covered bridge is a local attraction in Priceton, Illinois,
that served as the inspiration for this lyrical composition. The
serene setting brings to mind the many people who have
crossed that bridge in simpler times, and the stories of their
lives. This piece hopes to capture those moments of reflection,
joy, children playing, and powerful moments of resolve.

Remembrance—Larry Daehn. Here is a beautiful "In
Memoriam" piece reminiscent of the composer's A Song
for Friends. A gorgeous 3/4 melody emerges from the low
voices, is joined by an ethereal woodwind choir, develops
into a majestic, noble utterance, and then fades into
quietness. The perfect choice to remember someone in your
school or community.

qualities of this piece remind the listener of the strength of
