Rick Hirsch. Yes, this is for real! Queen's magnum opus, in a jazz language, orchestrated for big band, with jazz solos for Trombone (also cued in Trumpet 5/ Flugelhorn) and Alto or Baritone Sax thrown in for good measure. Additional features include multiple tempos and feels ranging from 76 to 304 bpm, to styles including an a cappella sax soli introduction, jazz ballad with double time, shuffle, and swing sections culminating in a rubato ending. This is a major work for jazz ensemble at 9 to 10 minutes that students and players will want to work on. Solid saxophone parts, tempo changes, mature brass figures, and a whole lot of fun! Instrumentation: 5 Saxes (AATTB), 5 Trumpets (on Flugelhorns), 4 Trombones (3 Tenors and 1 Bass), Guitar, Piano, Bass and Drums, with optional parts for Flute and Vibes. The lead trumpet range goes to written high D with an optional F, and the rhythm section parts are fully notated. 10371013 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 70.00 n Boop Boo Be DoopBill Holman. Bill Holman wrote some of the best music played by the Stan Kenton Orchestra and Boop Boo Be Doop is surely one of those charts. At around 220 bpm, this is a bright swinger that is a Holman trademark. The melody is scored for four horns within the big band setting, and those four horns, Alto, Tenor, Trumpet, and Trombone, are also the featured soloists. As recorded on The Concepts Era - Live! album, this chart represents Holman's ability to write swinging, exciting music for big band. 5 Saxes, 5 Trumpets, 5 Trombones, Piano, Bass, and Drums. 10368495 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 59.00 n C-Jam BluesDuke Ellington/arr. Bill Holman. Bill Holman grabs this iconic Ellington tune and runs with it. The arrangement, with its straight- ahead, driving swing, and tons of great background figures is yet another amazing example of Holman's extraordinary arranging skills. There's solo space for tenor saxophone and, of course, trumpet. There is no real need for any extra high trumpet playing here. The ensemble shout choruses alone are enough reason to put this chart in every jazz band library in the land. You will have a blast with this one! 10162085 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 67.00 Cellar DwellerJohn Fedchock. This medium- swing minor blues chart puts the focus on the foundation of your band's brass section... the bass trombone. A solid melody set below the staff and into the pedal register is offset by dramatic ensemble punctuations, sending the soloist off into an ad lib or as written solo section with simple chord changes. The shout chorus incorporates dynamic exchanges between the ensemble and bass trombone, with all leading to the final recap and low note finale. 10367832 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 56.00 n Chunka LunkaMary Lou Williams. It's amazing how contemporary this Mary Lou Williams chart sounds considering it was written so long ago. It proves how far ahead of her time this writer was. This cool, funky arrangement is very playable and features a memorable piano and rhythm section hook that you'll be humming for days! Solos for tenor saxophone or flute, as well as an open solo section are provided. Chunka Lunka is a great opportunity for players to work on soloing over blues changes. Highly recommended. 10368155 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 n ConfirmationCharlie Parker/arr. Dave Rivello. This great chart on Charlie Parker's Confirmation clearly confirms this arranger's remarkable arranging skills. The melody is stated by alto and trumpet, solo space (written or improvised) is for trombone and alto and there is plenty of ensemble work for everyone. It is a rewarding chart of the highest caliber. 10277952 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 Cut 'n RunGordon Goodwin. This swinger is like a high-wire act requiring speed, agility and horsepower! Brilliant composer/arranger Gordon Goodwin penned this up-tempo chart for his fabulous Big Phat Band and is recorded on his CD, The Phat Pack. High-energy throughout with solo space for alto, tenor, trumpet and trombone. Standard instrumentation. Wow! 2480799 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 65.00 10012411 The Phat Pack Dual Disc CD/DVD . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 19.95 4 Does This Chart Make Me Look Phat?Gordon Goodwin. In the style of Sammy Nestico and Count Basie, this medium swing chart is full of nuances. Included is solo space for all saxes, trumpet 4, and trombone 1. At about 110 bpm, this is truly a wonderful chart that will satisfy any mature band. As recorded by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band. 10452168 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 68.00 n EpistrophyMonk & Clarke/arr. John Fedchock. Featured on Woody Herman's 1986 Grammy nominated album, 50th Anniversary Tour, this John Fedchock arrangement captures the unique elements of Thelonious Monk's composition and couples it with the exciting signature sound associated with the best of Herman's "herds." Solos are featured for 4th Trumpet, 1st Tenor and 1st Alto (originally played by Woody on Soprano Sax). The band gets a workout in dynamic ensemble interludes as well as the culminating shout chorus. An optional open solo section is also included. This would make a great band showcase for a festival or competition! 10368159 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 75.00 H Giant StepsJohn Coltrane/arr. Mark Taylor. Here's a fresh take on a traditional jazz standard. The style is still up-tempo swing, and the saxes maintain a fair share of the spotlight along with ensemble hits and solo spots for drums; however, there is a brief excursion into 5/4 and a few other meter surprises that help give this outstanding chart a contemporary edge. Highly recommended! 10052510 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 H God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemenarr. Gordon Goodwin. As recorded by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, this hot chart features the saxophone section in a chorale introduction, a full ensemble swing at about mm 200, a sax soli, solo space for alto, tenor, trumpet, trombone and piano, a modulation and a big shout chorus. It's all here, it's Gordon Goodwin... what else do you need? Highly recommended! 10028191 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 65.00 n The Heat's OnSammy Nestico. Originally recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra and later revised for the SWR Big Band CD Basie-cally Sammy, this wonderful chart features a very bright tempo and features solo tenor sax. It also includes several spots for up-front drum work and even allows room for an extended drum solo if desired. 10283474 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 56.00 n I AmOmar Thomas. I Am swings at around 184 bpm and has a contemporary ECM feel. It's a musical journey and is sure to test the artistic bounds of your band as they explore all this chart has to offer. In addition to exceptional ensemble writing, there is solo space for Tenor and Piano (notated for Piano and ad lib for Tenor). If you are looking for an expressive chart to give your band and share with your audiences, then this is the one for you! 5 Saxes, 5 Trumpets, 5 Trombones, 4 Rhythm. 10368504 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 69.00 H I Just Can't Wait to Be KingElton John/arr. Gordon Goodwin. From the Disney movie "The Lion King," Gordon Goodwin has crafted a hot jazz shuffle that goes and then goes even more! A showcase for alto and trumpet with a unison melody line and solo space for each player, it includes plenty of energy, zip, attitude and a hot shout chorus section. This chart roars! Highly recommended! 10012009 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 65.00 n The Intrepid FoxFreddie Hubbard/arr. Eric Richards. Here's Freddie Hubbard's exciting jazz standard, as arranged by Eric Richards. The melody is stated by saxes and trumpet 2, solo space is for alto 1, tenor 1, trumpet 2 and guitar, all optional as needed. There is space for a drum solo as well. An interlude with lower dynamic levels is a nice contrast but overall, the chart is pure energy top to bottom! 10277942 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 n IsotopeJoe Henderson. In 1998 the Joe Henderson Big Band album won a Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Performance. All of the arrangements featured lengthy solos for tenor saxophone. Included are open solo sections so that any number of soloists may be featured. In addition, while there was no guitarist used during the recording sessions, a guitar part has been included as Henderson had done in his arrangements. These arrangements will require significant time to prepare, but they would be amazing for any competition or festival! Ranges: Trumpets 1, 2 & 3 to A6, E6, C#6; Trombone 1 to C5. 10348444 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 75.00 n Limehouse BluesPhillip Braham/arr. Les Hooper. After a medium tempo intro that features a piano line, the chart morphs into a burnin' swing chart at 250 beats per minute, so hang on to your hat! Solo space is provided for tenor but you can open it up easily. This is hot with great Les Hooper lines, counterpoint, cascading sections, pyramid patterns and just flat-out swingin' music. Seriously, it's great! Highly recommended! 10277929 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 Love ChantCharles Mingus/arr. Steve Slagle.
