Gordon Goodwin is one of the hottest writers on the big band scene today. His Big Phat Band is modern, hip, exciting, fresh and captivating to see and hear. This chart is the real thing as performed and recorded by the Big Phat Band. There are solos available for alto, tenor, trumpet and trombone and a percussion part is included along with an optional vibe part. On this one, Gordon even included optional flute and clarinet parts if you want to expand the ensemble. Although challenging, Get In Line is not quite as difficult as many of Gordon's fabulous charts. Excellent writing! 2480802 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . Here's another great chart to add to the growing Pat Metheny Series for jazz bands! It's a down-right funk chart originally recorded on the Metheny Group's album We Live Here. At around 84 bpm, it's set right in the pocket of a medium- slow groove, and features playful ensemble writing with solo space for Alto and Trumpet. This is a great chart to add flavor and diversity to any program. Your audiences will dig it and your jazz band will love playing it! 10368501 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 52.00 4 Give It OneFerguson & Downey/arr. Chris Sharp. Close to the original, but somewhat simplified, this burning rocker from the Maynard Ferguson library really sizzles with a driving intensity! The lead trumpet goes up to high D with a couple high E's thrown in for your aspiring high note specialist. It also includes a nice chorus for a written or improvised alto sax solo and some very cool trumpet section solis. 10456824 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 65.00 n Go GoBob Mintzer. This funk chart was originally recorded by the Yellowjackets for their Time Squared CD. Don't miss this moderate tempo funk/rock chart with plenty of unison and ensemble writing to make your band sound great. The open solo section is based on two chords in the friendly key of B-flat with scale/chord sheets included for the soloists. A unison call and response section follows the solos, then its back to the bridge, and a solid shout chorus leading to a dynamite finale. Groov-i-tude is a groove with attitude! Highly recommended! 10458668 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 47.00 n Groove MerchantJerome Richardson/arr. Thad Jones. Listed in "Teaching Music through Performance in Jazz" and recorded by the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra on their Central Park North album, this great collaboration between Jerome Richardson and Thad Jones has become an established standard for better bands. It's a mighty swinger with an edgy melody line, contemporary voicings, and lots of section work that's guaranteed to bring an audience to their feet. Changes for the open solo section are provided for soprano or alto saxes, trumpet, trombone, piano and guitar. The rhythm section parts are partially notated with chords cued. 2087823 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 56.00 4 Here Comes the SunGeorge Harrison/arr. Mike Tomaro. Mike Tomaro maintains the general flavor of the distinctive original and takes the opportunity to dress it up a bit for jazz ensemble. A classy new shine on a familiar gem! 10461348 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 50.00 H Hit the Ground RunningGordon Goodwin. It's funky with all the Big Phat Band attributes and it's fairly tough to play, but hey, it's Gordon and you know it will be a hot chart if you have the horses! The opening lick for piano is really hot and the rhythm section will stay busy and includes an auxiliary percussion part. There's also solo space for alto, tenor, bari sax, trumpet and trombone. Open with this chart and you will definitely get their attention! 10071930 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . A 65.00 10058872 CD/DVD-Act Your Age. . . . . 15.98 H Hunting WabbitsGordon Goodwin. Gordon Goodwin's tongue-in-cheek tribute to cartoons is stellar! The mixing of "legitimate" and swing styles makes this chart a showstopper. Soprano sax leads the saxes throughout, and some feisty unaccompanied sections will keep everyone on the edge of their seats. There's solo space for soprano, tenor, trumpet and trombone, along with percussion parts and an optional synthesizer part for the piano player. 2701978 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . The instrumentation is flexible: the saxophone parts with woodwind doubles, the sax parts without doubles, and even optional string parts... yes, strings! The solo space is for all saxes, 4th trumpet, and 1st and 2nd trombones. As recorded by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band on The Phat Pack, this is an amazing arrangement! Highly recommended! 10028188 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . A 70.00 10012411 The Phat Pack Dual Disc CD/DVD . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 19.95 l I'm Getting Sentimental Over YouGeorge Bassman/arr. Not a solo feature for trombone, it includes an optional part for vibes. 10452122 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 50.00 n IdiotequeRadiohead/arr. Patty Darling. Idioteque was recorded on Radiohead's 2000 CD Kid A, and Patty Darling's chart is a model for arranging contemporary pop/rock/fusion music for big band. It's rare to find such an artful and creative score that is accessible for less experienced ensembles! The notation is clear, ranges are reachable, and soloists at all levels will love the improvised sections. 10289483 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 62.00 Another Great Day—Mark Taylor. Written in a simmering medium tempo, this distinctive funk chart opens with the bass establishing the groove gradually joined by the rest of the rhythm section. A small combo of soprano sax, baritone sax, trumpet and trombone takes the first statement followed by the full ensemble on intricate unison lines as well as tutti ensemble punches and riffs. The solo space is reserved for tenor sax. Soprano sax is required. 10386208 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A 60.00 Backdraft—Jeff Jarvis. Los Angeles-based jazz composer Jeff Jarvis composed this tuneful funk chart entitled Backdraft. This medium level chart has all the characteristics of Jarvis' best selling funk charts such as Critical Mass, Honk, Old School, and Mohave Breakdown, and alternates between 3/4 and 4/4 funk feels. Infectious piano comping, punchy bass lines, and fun single-note guitar comping support the catchy melody. The solo section has accessible chord changes provided for alto sax, tenor sax, baritone sax, trumpet, and trombone. Guitar or piano can also join the solo order if desired. As in most of Jarvis' offerings, frequent articulations are provided for the horns and the rhythm parts are an integral part of the arrangement, not merely an afterthought. Everyone has interesting and challenging parts to play throughout. Highly recommended! 10455650 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . MA 52.00 Down to the Nightclub—arr. Stan's Plan features a rock/fusion groove and is inspired by the harmonies of Stan Kenton's Artistry in Rhythm as interpreted by the Brecker Brothers. After an intensely funky eight bar ensemble intro, the chart settles into a hip fusion groove where the melody unfolds through layered textures. An emphatic ensemble sendoff sets up a screaming heavy metal guitar solo which is followed by a more fusion based tenor sax solo. The sax section is featured next with commentary from the brass before the melody reappears in high fashion. The ending is a nod to the Kenton band theatrics, with a quote from Artistry in Rhythm's trombone section finale. The trumpet range is to written high D, and the tempo is around 114 bpm. Terrific festival or contest chart! 10458465 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . MA 45.00 Three Hip Mice—Steve Allee. Ingeniously composed using just the three-note motif from the nursery rhyme Three Blind Mice, jazz keyboard master Steve Allee has created an impressive and unique fusion-style chart for mature groups. Weaving the melody from section to section over the top of a continuously churning rhythm section foundation, this chart is a great way to spice up festival repertoire. The solos are handed out to alto sax and trumpet, but the chart can be opened up or adapted to accommodate any number of soloists. Dynamic and fresh! 10461354 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . MA 55.00 Tutu—Marcus Miller/arr. Michael Philip Mossman. From the album of the same name, Tutu is creatively arranged here for full big band in a sultry hip-hop fusion style similar to the original. Featuring distinctive modal style harmonies, and a few twists and turns, and solos for trumpet (naturally) and alto sax, this is sure to be a standout selection for any ensemble! 10461358 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
