With exciting yet accessible rhythms, Danza Para mi Hija (Dance for My Daughter) is a terrific introduction to Latin music. The melody is passed between reeds and brass and there is even a simplified montuno following the solo section. The features include moderate ranges, notated rhythm section parts, and an open solo section. Any player can solo with notes from the concert G natural minor scale using the included transposed scale sheet, and the solo section can be repeated as many times as necessary with backgrounds cued as desired. For students who wish not to improvise, a suggested solo is included in all parts. Scored for full jazz ensemble, it will sound full and complete with an optional minimum instrumentation of nine players (AAT Saxes, 2 Trumpets, 1 Trombone, and PBD Rhythm). It's also playable with optional reduced instrumentation. The tempo is suggested at about 140 bpm. Majestic, bold, and exciting, it's easy, well-written and effective for any concert! Originally composed by Gordon Goodwin for his Big Phat Band, this version is scored at the easy level by Mike Story. This Latin cha-cha is very accessible, with a written trumpet 1 solo, a montuno piano part that's cued in the saxes, an optional auxiliary percussion part, and a vibes part. Mike even included additional percussion parts for some winds to further enhance the Latin groove. Playable with optional reduced and expanded instrumentations. You and your young jazz band will really enjoy this chart!
