Based on the simple chord progression to Happy Birthday, the rhythm section plays a simple even eighth note, limbo/Latin style and the winds play with a slight swing feel and it all comes together just right! There's some neat plunger mute work too. This chart includes accessible ranges and written solos for alto sax, trumpet and trombone along with great fun and history. The rhythm section gets the groove going, followed by a Mariachi-style trumpet duet introducing the melody. Then everybody joins in and contributes equally with great ensemble sections, counter-lines and solis. A dotted 8th/16th rhythm is repeated throughout, so your ensemble will master it quickly. The ranges are reasonable with the trumpets never leaving the staff, the tempo is around 120 bpm, and there's an open solo section containing only three chords. With a very likable melody this chart also features a development section followed by a full shout chorus.
