n Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas TallisRalph
Vaughan Williams/arr. Hoffman. This string
masterpiece received a big boost in popularity
from the movie "Master and Commander: The Far
Side of the World." This piece combines the simple
but elegant thematic material of the Elizabethan
church composer Thomas Tallis, later expanded
and modernized through the luxurious harmonies
of Vaughan Williams. Hoffman's lush arrangement,
adapts and simplifies the original version into a
work that is ideal for developing string orchestras.
Performance options such as doubling at the octave
are given to re-create the sound of the original. Lots
of divisi writing makes this ideal for combined or
large orchestras! An excellent choice!

n Fantasia on Greensleeves (What Child is
This)Ralph Vaughan Williams/arr. Monday.
Rescored for strings, harp (keyboard) and two violin
soloists, this ethereal setting of Vaughan Williams'
stellar opus retains the form and texture of the
original while bringing it to a "student-friendly"
level for more players to enjoy. Melodic material
is passed effortlessly from one section to another
as Vaughan Williams intended and the first violin
solo includes some 3rd position work while the
second solo only requires 1st position. For large or
small performing groups, this is a rich setting of
a classic work appropriate for concerts, Christmas
presentations, and festivals throughout the year.

Ghosts of BrandenburgRichard Meyer.
Imagine a fantasy based on all six of the
"Brandenburg Concerti!" Not just a cute novelty,
but an entirely new work! It captures the spirit of
the "Brandenburgs," but sets most of them in minor
keys, or uses darker tones, pizzicato, and meter
changes J.S. Bach would never have imagined!
This is an inventive and challenging work that will
take your intermediate strings on an almost nine-
minute tour de force that will build their endurance
along with their musicality! Highly recommended for

variation from Elgar's "Enigma Variations" is the
most played and most beautiful of the variations.
Due to its overwhelming expressive quality, it
has become England's counterpart to Adagio for

and dignity is called for in that country. This fine
arrangement moves the key center from Eb to
the more string-friendly D. With some very nice
divisi writing, this makes an ideal choice for any
string orchestra, and especially nice for larger or
