This chart, made famous by bass virtuoso Jaco Pastorius, gets kicking with a killer gospel chorale, but is soon interrupted by one of the funkiest bass lines ever played! Erik Morales. Eddie Harris' Cold Duck Time features a straight eighth feel and a very hip opening intro lick. This terrific chart is set in a funky, rock groove at about 132 - 144 bpm and has written or improvised solo space for alto sax, bari sax, trumpet 2, and guitar. Bass and guitar kick off this original Gordon Goodwin chart with a captivating rhythmic pattern before the full ensemble settles in with the funky melody. There's plenty of ensemble writing, some in unison and some in harmony, and solo space for all winds with suggested or improv solos. The lead trumpet range goes to written G-sharp on top of the staff, the tempo is around 115 beats per minute, and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations. Eric Richards' charts are substantial, but worth the work! Here's Eric's take on Eddie Harris' burnin' jazz classic with a funk groove. The tempo moves along at 208 bpm and the lead trumpet range is to written C above the staff. Solo space is provided for alto, tenor, trumpet, trombone and guitar. Great tune and an excellent chart! With a medium funk groove and catchy riff-like melody, this Rick Stitzel original will quickly become one of your young jazz band's favorites. There's plenty of solid ensemble playing to make it easy to learn, and the solo section can be used to feature any saxophone or even the entire sax section. Suggested solos are included along with chord/scale sheets for improvising. Written for full jazz ensemble, it's also playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. 10376642 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . VE 35.00 4 Give It One—Ferguson & Downey/arr. Chris Sharp. Close to the original, but somewhat simplified, this burning rocker from the Maynard Ferguson library really sizzles with a driving intensity! The lead trumpet goes up to high D with a couple high E's thrown in for your aspiring high note specialist. It also includes a nice chorus for a written or improvised alto sax solo and some very cool trumpet section solis. 10456824 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . .MA 65.00 4 Grease Wheezer—Vince Norman. Grease Wheezer is funky, a little greasy, and a joy to play! The tempo is around 132 bpm, there are written solos for alto and trombone 1, and a funky piano and bass intro. The lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff. An optional vibes part is also included. 10452114 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . ME 50.00 I Got the Feelin'—James Brown/arr. Paul Murtha. Here is one of the signature hits from the "Godfather of Soul" James Brown in a funky and well-scored chart! The saxes take the lead while the brass deliver all the tight horn riffs. An optional open solo section is also featured along with a short drum break. Suggested solos and chord/scale sheets are included. The driving bass and funky lines will engage the band, the audience and you. Features include written solos for alto and tenor sax, and a lead trumpet range to written G on top of the staff. This classic jazz/rock favorite by Joe Zawinul is masterfully arranged for young jazz bands with an easy rock feel by Mike Story. This chart has a simple written out piano solo, a trumpet 1 range to written D fourth line, a tempo at about 100 beats per minute, and a very catchy melody.
