H Lux Aeterna—Morten Lauridsen. When this
magnificent choral work made its debut in 1997,
it was immediately recorded by the Los Angeles
Masterworks Chorale and received a Grammy
nomination. Since then, it has earned a place in
the choral repertoire as one of the most significant
musical statements of the 20th century. The
a cappella movement O Nata Lux is a pristine
example of Lauridsen's compositional style,
and the combined effect of Lauridsen's soaring
melodies and clustered harmonic textures is truly
ethereal. A work of uncompromising beauty for the
accomplished choir.

Requiem—Gabriel Faure/ed. Rutter.
Millions of musicians have been thrilled by
performances of this exceptional masterwork.
However, you may be surprised to find out that
the edition that we had all performed years ago
was far from what Faure originally conceived. After
completing considerable research into the original
composition and into Faure's writings about the
work, John Rutter created this edition which has
eclipsed all others as the standard of performance
for this masterpiece.

Requiem Opus 9—Maurice Durufle.
Drawing heavily on the plainsong chant tradition,
Durufle composed his crowning work in 1947 for
mixed chorus, with mezzo-soprano and baritone
soloists. He included three accompaniment
options, ranging from organ alone to full orchestra.
It is a meditative work that is equally compelling on
the concert stage or in the church sanctuary.

The Seven Last Words of Christ—
Theodore Dubois/ed. Hopson.
This lenten
masterpiece is a standard in choral libraries for
good reason. Hal Hopson has artfully retained all
the drama and poignancy of the original using the
solo and choral parts exactly as Dubois wrote them
with incidental rhythmic alterations to accomadate
the new English translation. The flexibility is derived
from the various accompaniment options. It may
be effectively played with Organ alone as found
in the choral score; choral score Organ with Flute
A, Harp, and Timpani; choral score Organ with
Flute B, Oboe, Harp, and Timpani; or a Chamber
Orchestra of Strings, Flutes, Oboe, Harp, Timpani
and a distinctive Organ part separate from the
choral score and Conductor's score. Compelling,
performance time 45 minutes.
