n It Ain't Easy Goin' GreenJim Mahaffey. It
Ain't Easy Goin' Green is a delightful trombone
solo feature that honors the amazing talent of the
great trombonist Urbie Green. This chart is an
easygoing bossa nova with accessible parts for
the band and soloist. The solo is mostly written,
but there are a few places where some improv
chops are necessary. Highly melodic for both the
ensemble and soloist, the ranges are reasonable
and the band is featured as well as the soloist.
Accessible trombone solo features are rare, and
it's a happy coincidence that this one is so great!
Included are optional parts for flute, clarinet, horn
in F and tuba.

Jive SambaNat Adderley/arr. Mark Taylor.
Recorded by the Cannonball Adderley Quintet
in the 1960s, this distinctive samba with a rock
flavor was composer by Cannonball's brother
Nat. Featuring a soulful and relaxed groove and
the familiar riff-like melodies, this chart uses an
ensemble of three saxes, trumpet and trombone
alternating with punches from the entire ensemble.
Suggested solos are included for alto and trumpet,
and the shout chorus features occasional 3/4
measures thrown in for added spice. For additional
solo options, scale/chord sheets are also included.
Very highly recommended!

4 La Almeja Pequena (The Little Clam)Gordon
Goodwin/arr. Paul Baker. Originally done by Gordon
Goodwin's Big Phat Band, here's an accessible
adaptation that will expand the popularity of this
very exciting Latin chart. This samba is played
around 90 bpm in cut-time with written or
improvised solos for alto 1 and trumpet 2, and a
trumpet 1 range to written G on top of the staff.
It simmers nicely throughout and the percussion
interludes are a blast! There are two auxiliary
percussion parts, plus optional parts for expanded
instrumentations. Highly recommended!

H Land of Make BelieveChuck Mangione/arr.
Victor Lopez. Get out the Latin percussion for
this famous tune! A lazy intro for trumpet and
alto explodes into a fierce samba that develops
into a mambo later on, then back to the samba
feel. Turn your first trumpet player loose on this
and drive your audience into a frenzy! This will go
over big for contest and festival performances,
too! Very highly recommended!

for piano, trumpet and tenor sax with modest brass
ranges and a sweet shout chorus. It's been play-
tested with great success and is an excellent chart

My Little Suede ShoesCharlie Parker/arr.
Mark Taylor. This appealing and light-hearted tune
by Charlie Parker is treated here in a medium-
tempo samba style. A small group comprised of
alto, tenor, trumpet, trombone and guitar takes
the lead for the first chorus. After a solo section for
alto sax and trumpet, the entire ensemble jumps in
for a chorus while trading phrases with the drums.
A very effective and unique offering for younger jazz
bands! Suggested solos and chord/scale sheets in
all keys are included. Highly recommended!

n My Little Suede ShoesCharlie Parker/arr. Rich
Sigler. This chart is captivating! It is a bossa with a
straight-eighth feel at about 140 beats per minute.
It's clever, creative, fun to play and the best part is
it's not difficult to rehearse or perform. Everything is
written out to include alto 1 and tenor 1 solos, some
melodic action for all sections, modest brass ranges,
and an interlude with winds only building into a great
shout chorus. A "must-have" chart for sure! Highly
recommended! Optional expanded instrumentation.

recording of this jazz classic is by Bill Evans, with
other notable recordings by Cannonball Adderley
and Joe Henderson. Paul Murtha's arrangement
for developing groups features a Latin style on the
head then switches to swing on the bridge. This really
nice chart also includes very effective writing for all
sections of the band as well as written or improvised
solo space for alto sax. Highly recommended!

Paul Murtha. When it comes to Latin compositions,
it just doesn't get any better than the music of
Antonio Carlos Jobim. This classic tune is nicely
adapted for intermediate players featuring the

the "more than one note" bridge. The easy flowing
groove and solid ensemble writing help ensure a
great sounding arrangement!

n Puerto del SolCarl Strommen. Veteran
composer Carl Strommen has created a very
playable, medium Latin chart that grooves along
at about 144 bpm. With a strong introduction and
a flowing unison melody, this nice original also
features a solo section with optional suggested
solos included or improvised as desired. The full
ensemble joins in before the first solo which enters
and exits with a highly effective and short unison
montuno for the rhythm section. The pleasant
melody, written solos, easy ranges and even eighth
note feel throughout make this a winner with little
rehearsal time. Written ranges: Trumpet 1 to A;
Trombone to F; Alto Sax to C#. An optional flute
part is included. This is a great Latin chart for mid

up. Crisp ensemble work and written or improvised
solos lead to a percussion break before the head
