It Ain't Easy Goin' Green is a delightful trombone solo feature that honors the amazing talent of the great trombonist Urbie Green. This chart is an easygoing bossa nova with accessible parts for the band and soloist. The solo is mostly written, but there are a few places where some improv chops are necessary. Highly melodic for both the ensemble and soloist, the ranges are reasonable and the band is featured as well as the soloist. Accessible trombone solo features are rare, and it's a happy coincidence that this one is so great! Recorded by the Cannonball Adderley Quintet in the 1960s, this distinctive samba with a rock flavor was composer by Cannonball's brother Nat. Featuring a soulful and relaxed groove and the familiar riff-like melodies, this chart uses an ensemble of three saxes, trumpet and trombone alternating with punches from the entire ensemble. Suggested solos are included for alto and trumpet, and the shout chorus features occasional 3/4 measures thrown in for added spice. For additional solo options, scale/chord sheets are also included. Originally done by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, here's an accessible adaptation that will expand the popularity of this very exciting Latin chart. This samba is played around 90 bpm in cut-time with written or improvised solos for alto 1 and trumpet 2, and a trumpet 1 range to written G on top of the staff. It simmers nicely throughout and the percussion interludes are a blast! There are two auxiliary percussion parts, plus optional parts for expanded instrumentations. A lazy intro for trumpet and alto explodes into a fierce samba that develops into a mambo later on, then back to the samba feel. Turn your first trumpet player loose on this and drive your audience into a frenzy! This will go over big for contest and festival performances, too! Jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard has sadly passed on but his wonderful music lives on. This wonderful jazz standard is masterfully arranged and features a haunting melody with an alternating bossa and light funk groove. The solos are written for piano, trumpet and tenor sax with modest brass ranges and a sweet shout chorus. It's been play- tested with great success and is an excellent chart all around! This chart features a solid Latin groove at 156 bpm with optional percussion and vibes, two solo sections with written solos provided for any instrument, a big modulation, optional expanded wind parts, and even some band vocals. Mark Taylor. This appealing and light-hearted tune by Charlie Parker is treated here in a medium- tempo samba style. A small group comprised of alto, tenor, trumpet, trombone and guitar takes the lead for the first chorus. After a solo section for alto sax and trumpet, the entire ensemble jumps in for a chorus while trading phrases with the drums. A very effective and unique offering for younger jazz bands! This chart is captivating! It is a bossa with a straight-eighth feel at about 140 beats per minute. It's clever, creative, fun to play and the best part is it's not difficult to rehearse or perform. Everything is written out to include alto 1 and tenor 1 solos, some melodic action for all sections, modest brass ranges, and an interlude with winds only building into a great shout chorus. The definitive recording of this jazz classic is by Bill Evans, with other notable recordings by Cannonball Adderley and Joe Henderson. Paul Murtha's arrangement for developing groups features a Latin style on the head then switches to swing on the bridge. This really nice chart also includes very effective writing for all sections of the band as well as written or improvised solo space for alto sax. Horace Silver's contemporary jazz classic is now available for intermediate-level jazz ensembles in this arrangement of the timeless tune made famous by the Buddy Rich Band. Written solos and chord changes are provided for all members of the ensemble, you can "open it up" as much as you like. When it comes to Latin compositions, it just doesn't get any better than the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim. This classic tune is nicely adapted for intermediate players featuring the brass on the "one note" melody and the saxes on the "more than one note" bridge. The easy flowing groove and solid ensemble writing help ensure a great sounding arrangement! 10016130 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 n Puerto del SolCarl Strommen. Veteran composer Carl Strommen has created a very playable, medium Latin chart that grooves along at about 144 bpm. With a strong introduction and a flowing unison melody, this nice original also features a solo section with optional suggested solos included or improvised as desired. The full ensemble joins in before the first solo which enters and exits with a highly effective and short unison montuno for the rhythm section. The pleasant melody, written solos, easy ranges and even eighth note feel throughout make this a winner with little rehearsal time. Written ranges: Trumpet 1 to A; Trombone to F; Alto Sax to C#.
