Originally recorded by Cannonball Adderley on his album Domination, and inspired by Oliver Nelson, Bob Curnow's adaptation of Introduction to a Samba features an alto saxophone and trumpet duet stating the melody supported by a traditional samba feel. There's plenty of solo space for alto saxophone and trumpet as they further enjoy the spotlight. The drummer then has a short solo which leads back to a restatement of the theme. All ranges are very moderate. This chart is a great addition to any program needing a solid Latin chart to provide variety and spice! 10519936 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . It's totally fun to play with all the creative twists and turns you expect from arranger Alan Baylock. Solo space is provided for all horns and the lead trumpet range is to written C above the staff. This fresh take on a popular Jimmy Van Heusen and Johnny Burke standard features an even eighths Latin feel at about 144 bpm with incredibly beautiful ensemble writing in addition to the Tenor Sax solo. The solo part is both written and improvised and will be an outstanding opportunity to feature your soloist. This bright Latin/samba chart features the full ensemble getting off to a high-energy start, then the alto sax and trumpet take over to present the melody. The trombone section jumps in for the bridge before the trumpets make their majestic return to finish out the form. A 16-bar montuna builds in layers to send off the alto sax soloist, followed by a trombone soloist leading into the entire trombone section trading fours with the drummer. The trumpets join in for two more passages before the saxes take over with a hot section soli. The trumpets return with the final statement of the melody and lead to the big finish. Tasty and groovy with a funky Latin groove, this tune was composed by Dave Grusin and arranged by Gordon to feature Dave and guitarist Lee Ritenour on the Big Phat Band CD, Act Your Age. If you have a piano player to showcase and a tasty guitar player, this is a wonderful chart. Not technically difficult, but dynamics and colors are a key aspect of this arrangement. Rich DeRosa has created a marvelous Latin composition in a Baiao feel that comes out of the gate roaring! The very hip melody is stated by flute, soprano and alto saxohones, trumpet and piano. There's plenty of room for improvisation with soloists of choice, including space for the drummer and any other percussion you might choose to add. There's a lot of energy lurking in this samba chart played at about 170 bpm. The full band unison section builds and builds into the solo section. Coming out of the solo section, the band goes into stop-time, building and building to an exciting solo section playable by any of the five saxophones. The brass ranges are very moderate for this difficulty level, making the chart accessible to many ensembles.
