It's totally fun to play with all the creative twists and turns you expect from arranger Alan Baylock. Solo space is provided for all horns and the lead trumpet range is to written C above the staff. Here's Gordon Goodwin's slow, funky version of the holiday classic that's very clever with the initial melody line played by bass trombone and bari sax. The tempo is 110 bpm, it has soprano sax lead, and solo space for all saxes, trumpet 4, and trombones 1 and 2. The lead trumpet range is up to high A-flat. Beginning with a slinky piano riff, Moon Juice builds to a full ensemble with lots of moving parts, all riding on top of a funky hip-hop-style groove. The piano is featured throughout the first portion of the chart with several four-measure solos. There are additional solos for tenor sax, trumpet, and drums before returning to the opening piano riff, this time accompanied by a harmon muted trumpet solo on the way to the big ending. This chart is a great addition to the growing collection of Radiohead charts that has provided bands throughout the world with wonderful, unique choices for their jazz programs. This fusion chart explores interesting meters including an alternating 3/4 and 4/4 section, then in a gentle funk section alternating 7/4 and 4/4 meters. There are gorgeous textures throughout, including an optional part for female vocalist. There is expansive space for soloists of choice culminating in a free piano solo. Written solos are included for trumpet and tenor sax, and the lead trumpet range is up to written B-flat. A great closer for any concert or festival performance. What a title... what a chart. Rippin' 'n Runnin' is a funky chart at about 176 beats per minute with a classic Gordon Goodwin piano introduction. This chart has solo space for alto 1, tenors 1 and 2, trumpet 4 and trombone 1. The chart has an auxiliary percussion part and the lead trumpet range is to written high F. As recorded by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band on the CD That's How We Roll. Unavailable for many years, this outstanding and challenging composition for advanced jazz ensembles is back in print! It was originally recorded by Maynard Ferguson on the It's My Time album and features lead trumpet as a solo vehicle along with substantial backing from the ensemble. It's a slow funk/rock chart that closely follows the original, but includes parts for full sax and trombone sections. The trumpet soloist doubles on flugelhorn and the tempo is around 76 bpm. Challenging? Sure, but well worth the effort! An ideal way to feature an outstanding soloist or guest artist! 10522089 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . A 70.00 Street MusicFred Sturm. This original is everything we've come to expect from this talented jazz composer. Set in a half-time funk shuffle style, the operative words here are "rhythmic groove." From the album of the same name, Tutu is creatively arranged here for full big band in a sultry hip-hop fusion style similar to the original. Featuring distinctive modal style harmonies, and a few twists and turns, and solos for trumpet (naturally) and alto sax, this is sure to be a standout selection for any ensemble! 10461358 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . Michael Philip Mossman. Recorded in the mid- 1950s and also known as Trane's Blues, this jazz classic is credited to Miles Davis but reportedly was penned by John Coltrane. In typical Sturm fashion, the beginning of FM is a kaleidoscope of independent fragments culminating with the original Steely Dan introduction as it moves into the melody played by clarinets. While this chart certainly rocks, there is a depth and warmth in the stating of the melody before it rips into a tenor saxophone solo. There is also space for a shredding guitar or trumpet solo. Trumpets double on flugelhorns and the woodwind parts include clarinets 1 and 2, tenor sax 1/clarinet 3, soprano sax/tenor sax 2 and bass clarinet/baritone sax. A 55.00 l Gaucho—Walter Becker & Donald Fagan/arr. Fred Sturm. Steely Dan's Gaucho was originally arranged by Fred Sturm for the HR Big Band (Germany). Set in a slow half-time gospel feel, there is beautiful, lush ensemble writing throughout the piece. As with most Steely Dan charts, there is plenty of solo space to feature guitar or trumpet, and it's a great way to add diversity to any program.
