Originally recorded by Cannonball Adderley on his album Domination, Cyclops is one of those infectious charts that will make your audiences bob their heads, tap their feet, and snap their fingers! This tune grooves! Set as a medium-slow funky boogaloo, Oliver Nelson scores the melody to feature alto and trumpet, and there's solo space for alto, trumpet and tenor. This chart comes to a roar at the end as the full ensemble responds to the alto and trumpet melody calls. A fresh must-have for your jazz band library! It includes solos for tenor, trombone, or guitar, with a lead trumpet range to written high C. There's lots of hot ensemble sections, too! 10452162 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 58.00 l FMWalter Becker & Donald Fagan/arr. Fred Sturm. This Steely Dan rocker was arranged for the WDR Big Band (Germany), and is worthy of any band's library. In typical Sturm fashion, the beginning of FM is a kaleidoscope of independent fragments culminating with the original Steely Dan introduction as it moves into the melody played by clarinets. While this chart certainly rocks, there is a depth and warmth in the stating of the melody before it rips into a tenor saxophone solo. There is also space for a shredding guitar or trumpet solo. Trumpets double on flugelhorns and the woodwind parts include clarinets 1 and 2, tenor sax 1/clarinet 3, soprano sax/tenor sax 2 and bass clarinet/ baritone sax. Mike Tomaro. Recorded by Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter's hypnotic minor blues has become a true jazz classic and required literature for jazz musicians. Arranged here using a medium straight-eighth-note groove, this chart makes effective use of all the sections or the ensemble and includes a flexible solo section for any player. The tempo moves along at 208 bpm and the lead trumpet range is to written C above the staff. Solo space is provided for alto, tenor, trumpet, trombone and guitar. Great tune and an excellent chart! Steely Dan's Gaucho was originally arranged by Fred Sturm for the HR Big Band (Germany). Set in a slow half-time gospel feel, there is beautiful, lush ensemble writing throughout the piece. As with most Steely Dan charts, there is plenty of solo space to feature guitar or trumpet, and it's a great way to add diversity to any program. Trumpets double on flugelhorns and the woodwind parts include flutes 1 an 2, soprano saxophones 1 and 2, and baritone saxophone. Bands and audiences alike will thoroughly enjoy this one! 10519924 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 57.00 Get in LineGordon Goodwin. Gordon Goodwin is one of the hottest writers on the big band scene today. His Big Phat Band is modern, hip, exciting, fresh and captivating to see and hear. This chart is the real thing as performed and recorded by the Big Phat Band. There are solos available for alto, tenor, trumpet and trombone and a percussion part is included along with an optional vibe part. On this one, Gordon even included optional flute and clarinet parts if you want to expand the ensemble. Although challenging, Get In Line is not quite as difficult as many of Gordon's fabulous charts. Excellent writing! 2480802 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . Close to the original, but somewhat simplified, this burning rocker from the Maynard Ferguson library really sizzles with a driving intensity! The lead trumpet goes up to high D with a couple high E's thrown in for your aspiring high note specialist. It also includes a nice chorus for a written or improvised alto sax solo and some very cool trumpet section solis. 10456824 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 65.00 n Groov-i-tudePete McGuinness. Don't miss this moderate tempo funk/rock chart with plenty of unison and ensemble writing to make your band sound great. The open solo section is based on two chords in the friendly key of B-flat with scale/chord sheets included for the soloists. A unison call and response section follows the solos, then its back to the bridge, and a solid shout chorus leading to a dynamite finale. Groov-i-tude is a groove with attitude! Listed in Teaching Music through Performance in Jazz and recorded by the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra on their Central Park North album, this great collaboration between Jerome Richardson and Thad Jones has become an established standard for better bands. It's a mighty swinger with an edgy melody line, contemporary voicings, and lots of section work that's guaranteed to bring an audience to their feet. Changes for the open solo section are provided for soprano or alto saxes, trumpet, trombone, piano and guitar. The rhythm section parts are partially notated with chords cued. 2087823 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 56.00 Here Comes the SunGeorge Harrison/arr. Mike Tomaro. This is probably George Harrison's most famous contribution to the illustrious catalog of recordings by The Beatles! Mike Tomaro maintains the general flavor of the distinctive original and takes the opportunity to dress it up a bit for jazz ensemble. It's funky with all the Big Phat Band attributes and it's fairly tough to play, but hey, it's Gordon and you know it will be a hot chart if you have the horses! The opening lick for piano is really hot and the rhythm section will stay busy and includes an auxiliary percussion part. There's also solo space for alto, tenor, bari sax, trumpet and trombone. It lays well at around 120 bpm and has written or improvised solos for alto/bari, tenor, trumpet, and trombone. Electric piano will sound great on the funky piano introduction, the lead trumpet range is up to written high C, and optional auxiliary percussion, flute and vibes parts are included. Including a flexible solo section and also a full ensemble shout, this chart is a real treat!
