Jazz/Rock & Funk medium-easy
n Groovin' HardDon Menza/arr. Dave Barduhn.
There's nothing like a hard-driving blues piece to
kick off a program and this one really fits the bill!
Dave Barduhn has made Buddy Rich's trademark
playable by younger groups, and it's a great way to
teach style.

l Guitar CityScott Stanton. Solid and
authentic-sounding ensemble writing provides
an exceptional foundation for this rock guitar solo
feature! Guitar City explodes from the first guitar
power chord behind a rhythmic horn section
intro right into the melodic verse-verse-chorus-
improvisation format. The easy B-flat major
pentatonic scale means there's no such thing
as a wrong note for the rising star guitarist, and
the guitar part includes tablature for licks with
appropriate slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and
chord shape/performance suggestions. Playable
with optional reduced instrumentations, this is an
outstanding chart for maturing bands who want
to rock the house!

n House of the Rising Sunarr. Paul Clark. You'll
hear this arrangement a lot because your band will
ask to play it again and again. After a slow and
bluesy introduction featuring solo alto and piano, a
new tempo is set and the high-energy rock begins.
This chart doesn't just cook, it nukes! The powerful
and safe ensemble writing leads to an open solo
section for any instrument over basically just one
chord. Then a key change from E-flat to F sets
up a big finish. What began as a folk song about
New Orleans becomes a hard-driving rock chart in
this easy-to-play arrangement that your band and
audiences will love!
10311489 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 48.00
I Want You Backarr. John Wasson. The
music of The Jackson 5 remains as popular today
as ever. Here is one of their biggest hits from the
Motown era in a funky arrangement that is skillfully
scored for the entire ensemble. No solos, just solid
ensemble writing!

4 Iron ManBlack Sabbath/arr. Dallas Burke.
Black Sabbath's rock classic has been a student
favorite for many marching bands through the
years and makes a great jazz band chart that
rocks with some serious attitude! From the
opening hard rock feel to the double-time climax
at the end, this one is a thriller. It includes short
written or ad lib solos for trumpet and trombone,
or you can just turn your guitar player up to 10
and let them shred!
10517415 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 65.00
4 It's Cool in VegasTim Fisher. Tim Fisher's
original tune is the epitomy of groovy! It's Cool in
Vegas features a boogaloo/jazz rock feel with a
couple of measures of swing at the end of sections
to make it a really hip chart. Also featured is
brief solo space for improvised trumpet or tenor
sax solos before a modulation and then a nice
breakdown and big ensemble section. Very cool,
and very unique!
10517417 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00
4 It's Really All About That Groove!Andy Clark.
Here's an Andy Clark funky rock original that cooks
right from the first note! Settling in at a tempo of
112 bpm, the ensemble digs in on the melody, the
rhythm section begins to groove, and the bari sax
player is put to good use. There's an open section
for soloists of choice over easy chord changes
and an optional open-ended drum solo. The brass
ranges are very reasonable and the result will be
great! Highly recommended!
10518275 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 48.00
H The Jazz PoliceGordon Goodwin/arr. Mike
Lewis. This famous Gordon Goodwin jazz-rock
chart hits hard and keeps going at an easier grade
level. The young players will really dig in on this
one and feel like the pros. There are no individual
solos, but plenty of action for everybody with the
solid riffs, infectious rhythms and fun attitude.
Highly recommended!
10011885 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 40.00
Jive SambaNat Adderley/arr. Mark Taylor.
Recorded by the Cannonball Adderley Quintet in the
1960s, this distinctive samba with a rock flavor was
composer by Cannonball's brother Nat. Featuring a
soulful and relaxed groove and the familiar riff-like
melodies, this chart uses an ensemble of three saxes,
trumpet and trombone alternating with punches from
the entire ensemble. Suggested solos are included
for alto and trumpet, and the shout chorus features
occasional 3/4 measures thrown in for added spice.
For additional solo options, scale/chord sheets are
also included. Very highly recommended!
10317264 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00
Jungle Boogiearr. Victor Lopez. If you're
looking for a killer opener or closer, this is it! This
70's funk classic makes for a real powerhouse jazz
chart! Syncopated unison riffs over a funky bass
line build up to a couple of really hot solos. There's
definitely a high recognition factor with this one too,
so you can be sure the audience is going to love it!

H Little SunflowerFreddie Hubbard/arr. Mike
Kamuf. Jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard has sadly
passed on but his wonderful music lives on. This
wonderful jazz standard is masterfully arranged
and features a haunting melody with an alternating
bossa and light funk groove. The solos are written
for piano, trumpet and tenor sax with modest brass
ranges and a sweet shout chorus. It's been play-
tested with great success and is an excellent chart
all around! Optional expanded instrumentation.
10093122 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 48.00
Locked Out of Heavenarr. Paul Murtha. Here's
the popular rock hit recorded by Bruno Mars in a
solid chart for younger jazz bands. Included are
all the hot riffs and rhythmic energy of the original
along with suggested or improvised solos for alto
sax and trumpet. Chord/scale sheets in all keys are
included for the soloists.
10374170 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00
n Mercy, Mercy, MercyJosef Zawinul/arr. Dallas
Burke. This sultry jazz standard from Joe Zawinul
has been covered by so many artists through the
years, it's hard to keep count. This dynamic jazz
ensemble arrangement begins with the feel of the
original combo version as tenor sax plays a written
or ad lib solo before the band enters to crank up the
energy. Next, trumpet 2 has a written or improvised
solo before the entire ensemble eloquently
reintroduces the theme. Things heat up quickly
as the entire ensemble shouts with a funky chorus
before the ending. Your band is going to shine with
this great arrangement of a super standard!
10280573 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 65.00
