e The Little Drummer Boy—arr. Gordon Good-
win. Here's Gordon Goodwin's slow, funky version
of the holiday classic that's very clever with the
initial melody line played by bass trombone and
bari sax. The tempo is 110 bpm, it has soprano
sax lead, and solo space for all saxes, trumpet 4,
and trombones 1 and 2. The lead trumpet range is
up to high A-flat. Very cool chart!

Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming—arr. Bob
Curnow. With a nod to the wonderful Dave
Maddux arrangement written for the vocal group
First Call, Bob Curnow has created a gorgeous
version for big band. Every jazz group needs
Christmas charts to perform, and this one is
beautiful in its simplicity and overall effect.
It begins quietly in a jazz chorale style and
gradually builds to a dramatic climax followed by
a sonorous ending. There are no solos. Turn off
the house lights, put the spotlight on your band,
and you will be able to hear a pin drop when you
finish this beautiful arrangement. Very highly
recommended!
