He holds a B.A. in music and philosophy from the University of St. Thomas, a M.A. in theology from Central Seminary, and a M.A. in music composition from the University of Minnesota, where he is also currently pursuing a Ph.D in composition. Josh has studied piano under Katherine Faricy; conducting under Angela Broeker, Ma Mehaffey, and Kathy Romey; theory under David Damschroder; and composition under James Callahan and Alex Lubet. Josh has wrien for local professional and semi-professional ensembles, including Indånde (a flute, oboe, and piano ensemble with whom he partnered to receive the 2010 Jerome Grant for New Music) and Deo Cantamus of Minnesota (a faith-based local choir who premiered his 2014 oratorio Abraham). In 2015, he won VocalEssence's Welcome Christmas carol contest, and accepted a position as composer-in-residence for Grace University Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Recently, he has wrien pieces commissioned by the University of Minnesota Foundation, by the Brehm New Music Initiative, and by various churches across Minnesota. Several of Josh's sacred octavos are published by Jubal House, an imprint of Fred Bock Music Company. In addition to writing music and studying for courses, Josh stays busy teaching music theory, co-directing the St. Thomas Alumni Choir, and serving at Northwest Bible Church in St. Michael, Minnesota.
