Alan Baylock. Here's Alan Baylock's contemporary treatment of this wonderful jazz standard in a half-time funk feel played with the half note equaling about 96 bpm. The lead trumpet range is to written B flat, a suggested written alto sax solo is included, optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations, and the initial melody is stated by trombones and then bounces to each section. With its unmistakable bass line, just plain cool rhythmic groove, and infectious rock style, here's a classic 1970s hit that young players are sure to enjoy! Arranged with moderate ranges, easy rhythms, and no solos, this medium tempo rock chart will go together quickly, and it's playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. Originally recorded by the Cannonball Adderley Quintet, here's a classic jazz tune that works great for younger ensembles. Arranged here in an attractive shuffle funk style, there's nice balance between a small group flavor and riffs scored for the entire ensemble. Suggested solos are included for alto sax and trumpet along with chord/scale sheets in all keys. Recorded by the American alternative rock band Walk the Moon, this contemporary rock hit features a driving pulse and catchy melodic lines. With the melody traded between the saxes and trumpets, this accessible chart also features plenty of solid, full-ensemble scoring. No solos are required, and a full band statement rounds out this infectious and instantly recognizable song. Michael Philip Mossman takes this familiar hit and adds his own unique touch. The opening features the brass with sax section fills. The middle section goes into a double-time swing and includes a solo for tenor sax, a soli for the saxes, and a drum break. All the familiar lines from the original are there too! It's funky, it's accessible, it's a Gordon Goodwin tune arranged for the developing jazz ensemble! It's half-time funk with the tempo at about 188 bpm with written-out solos available for any saxophone. The lead trumpet range is to written G on top of the staff and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations, and it's a no-fail crowd-pleaser! Paul Murtha captures all the style and attitude in this exciting chart for jazz ensembles. The melody is skillfully passed around from section to section, and suggested or improvised solo options are provided for trumpet and tenor sax, along with written bass lines and piano voicings. Fun, funky, hip, groovy — call it what you want, this chart is excellent in every way... and if you have a decent bari player, he or she will really love this one. There are written solos for alto and tenor sax, a stop-time without rhythm section for the saxes, a fantastic interlude section, a monster shout chorus, and some short drum fills... what's not to like!? Featured in the 2014 movie "Whiplash," depicting the relationship between an ambitious student musician and an abusive, yet respected instructor, this chart is a super-exciting work in 7/4 composed by Hank Levy and arranged by Erik Morales. Don't be intimidated by the meter... it's challenging, but after a few minutes it feels quite natural and the students will totally groove on it. The melody is stated by 2nd trumpet and 1st alto with solo space for both on easy chord changes. Articulation is critical and the rhythm section may want to spend some quality time together.
