There are lots of swing charts based on blues changes, but this one is in a class of its own! Because I Said So features an attention-grabbing intro, unison ensemble melodies, sectional trades, and an optional open solo section with suggested solos included, all the while swinging along at 160 bpm. After the solos there's a soft interlude featuring your bass player with tasty, written solo licks, then an even quieter ensemble section leading to a shout chorus that really shouts! This bright swinger kicks right from the start at around 180 bpm! Based on a blues form, this chart is very melodic and simply cooks in an uncomplicated fashion, with tasty unison riffs balancing the powerfully scored ensemble sections. The open solo section with great background figures, along with the included suggested solos, provides an opportunity for individual band members to shine. Additional highlights included a nice shout chorus and a section after the shout that begins softly and builds to the end. It's also playable with optional reduced instrumentation. This chart, originally popularized by Buddy Rich, has been scored at an accessible level while maintaining the essence of the original and more. The tempo is around 154 bpm, there are written solos for tenor and trumpet 2, as well as nice dynamics to show off your jazz band, plus optional parts for expanded instrumentations. Recorded by Trombone Shorty on his 2011 album For True and featuring the Rebirth Brass Band and 5th Ward Weebie, this hot tune has a funky New Orleans style groove with a moderate tempo and catchy riffs. The trombones get the spotlight to start with, followed by tight ensemble playing and later space for an improvised or written trombone solo. This chart is cool, confident and colorful! One of the classic trademark tunes from the Duke Ellington library, this familiar jazz standard is solidly scored for younger players by Mark Taylor. Don't miss this great funky blues chart! It's got a laid back groove that really grabs you! Originally written for Count Basie, it's the kind of chart that will make your band sound great. Written out rhythm section parts are really nice, and the horn parts... hey, this is just great writing. Everything sits right in the pocket! 2314862 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . 48.00 Flight of the Foo Birds—Neal Hefti/arr. Peter Blair. This Peter Blair chart on the Neal Hefti/ Count Basie classic is a wonderful adaptation for younger jazz groups. It does its Basie thing with a light and cool swing feel, includes nice changes in texture, has brief written or ad lib solos for alto sax and trumpet 2, and an outstanding shout chorus with drum fills. Played at 156 bpm, the trumpet 1 range is up to written G on top of the staff, and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations. This 1975 tune by the Temptations is one of their later hits and is described as "funkadelic" in style. This chart features the infectious bass line first stated by baritone sax and guitar, and later joined by the rest of the ensemble playing the funky riffs. The solo section on a one-chord vamp can easily be opened up, but samples are provided for alto sax, trumpet and trombone. You will love the way the ensemble layers in near the ending.
