Here's a great-sounding, slow blues from master pianist and composer Red Garland. It's a terrific piece for young soloists, as well as a good style study for the entire ensemble. Shuffle on Down roars right from the start and is a perfect opener. The melody uses notes from the blues scale and is passed all around the band. The shout chorus really wails for this grade level. Sure to be a crowd pleaser, it features an easy grade level, moderate ranges, notated rhythm section parts, written or improvised solos for all players, and is playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. This chart swings all the way and is very playable by a young jazz ensemble. Arranger Vince Gassi offers a fresh take on this classic, yet captures the essence of this well-known Strayhorn composition made famous by Ellington. It's scored exactly right for younger players... not too difficult but with fun-to-play parts. With brief written solos for 1st alto sax and 1st trumpet, and easy ranges, it also has plenty of dynamics to teach. A superb chart you will play for years to come! Salute the unsung hero of the jazz ensemble, the piano player, with this accessible piano feature! 88 Ave. B is an accessible Basie-style swinger that features the piano throughout with tasty fills and a place in the spotlight. Written solos are provided for the piano as well as trumpet and trombone. Each section has a chance to shine in this appealing chart. Don't miss this swinging, shuffle blues chart for developing groups that cooks right off the top! Set at about 132 bpm, it features a full and hot saxophone section soli, a stop-time section leading into the solo, a written or improvised solo for trumpet, and a section that comes way down after the solos that features the brass and then the full ensemble. It then opens up and really begins to swing! Additionally, it can be played with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. Bacon Suite Blues has it all: a strong melody, solid ensemble writing, varying dynamics and an optional open solo section with included solo sheets. There's a soft ensemble section after the solos that builds to a wonderful shout and then a trombone section soli, then more hard-driving and down home swing leading to a cool finale. From "The Jungle Book," this timeless classic appeared in the original move as well as the latest blockbuster hit. This carefully crafted arrangement requires no solos, but features every section of the band with the trombones first, followed by the saxes and finally trumpets.
