SCENE 4
COACH WALKER: Ringtones and apps and texting and Wi-Fi . . . oh, my! Next
thing you know, they'll be putting a phone in your glasses or
. . . or . . . even on your watch!
JEREMY:
Wow! It's like he's still living in two thousand ten!
HARPER: I would think all this stuff is good news. That way when God
calls, we'll be sure to hear it.
ESTHER:
Or maybe you'll be so distracted with your phones, you'll
miss it completely.
COACH WALKER:
Speaking of being distracted . . . Sara, are we keeping you
from something?
SARA:
Oh, I'm sorry. I'll be right back. I just realized I didn't have
a picture of me yet on the slide.
JEREMY:
Absolutely! Gotta have that . . .
COACH WALKER:
Okay. (to himself) Hmm . . . better write that down: Sara
slides slippery slides to snap simple selfies.
ESTHER:
So, enough about Sara. I want to hear more—
RUDY: (interrupts) She wants to hear more about how God calls
without a phone.
EVERYONE:
(groans)
HARPER:
And how old do you have to be to hear it?
COACH WALKER: Well, I'm glad you asked. You see, that's the beautiful part
about the voice of God. He can call anyone anytime, no
matter how young or how old they are.
RUDY:
Even YOUR age? (Kids laugh)
COACH WALKER:
Well, yes . . . even at my age. And since you asked, there's
another story in the Bible about how God called a boy named
Samuel.
JEREMY:
And let me guess . . . we're about to hear it?
