l
Fortitude—Kathleen Wissinger. "Fortitude" is
a welcome addition to ringTrue's "Split Level
Series" pieces written with targeted L1 positions
to seamlessly (and invisibly) integrate new or L1
ringers into an established group, to allow multi-
level or multi-grade groups to successfully perform
together, or to allow established ringers to practice
4iH in easier positions. Three compatible scores
are included in the folio: Written for Linda Ashley's
group in which the seasoned ringers played in the
bass range, "Fortitude's" L2 core piece (A1) covers
4 ringing positions G4-G5 (chimes optional), with
the option of adding two more L2 positions at CD4
and EF4. Adding L1 ringers above and below adds
depth: C4-F4 (and down to C3) ringers may play
from the L1 Bass score (A3); Any number of ringers
from A5-C7 may play L1 either from the main score
or from the more easily read L1 Treble score (A2).
A few ringers to a full range Chime Choir II may join
the performance, playing from the two L1 scores
A2 treble and A3 bass "Fortitude" offers a strong,
rhythmic statement in school, concert, festival or
worship settings (using the sacred sub-title "A
Strong Spirit"). Audiences will take note of the
richness of this original piece in C minor since most
of the attention is in the bass.

l Four Square—Kathleen Wissinger. This split-level
handbell composition is a useful resource when
teaching students about composition and when
you have students with experience and beginners
in the same group. Numerous variations on how
to present a melody are used in this level 1/level 2
composition. Wissinger hits a grand slam with her
imaginative "out of the box" thinking for teaching
handbells and engaging young musicians.

l Haunted House—Scott Pfitzinger. This unique

even an evil laugh are encouraged as you play. Its
creativity is sure to be a hit.

l Hatikvah—arr. Brenda Austin. This wonderful
arrangement of Israel's national anthem includes
two distinct sections. The first is moderately

majestic. This arrangement uses thumb damps and

also exercises and numerous suggestions on how

include in the music.

4 In the Beginning—Kathleen Wissinger. Take
a group of lively, creative 5th graders who are
in their 2nd year of ringing, lead them through a
carefully sequenced composing project and here's
the result! A fun, accessible L2 piece with lots of
personality and lots of techniques, of course! The
titles include In the Beginning and Opus Primus.
Everyone rings and learns lots of music theory along
the way: relative minor keys, augmented rhythms,
inverted chords and scales, sequencing, repetition,
variation and more. This piece focuses on
pedagogically sound music that carefully teaches
particular concepts and skills through pieces that
are also performance-worthy, so class/rehearsal
time is well-spent.

Per Fiddler—arr. Kathleen Wissinger. A beloved
Norwegian folk song, Per Fiddler, springs to life
with a lively waltz bass and an intriguing little
countermelody. This "Split-Level" L2 piece from
ringTrue is fully-scored for 3 or 5 octaves with
specific Level 1 positions that seamlessly integrate
new ringers into an established group or allow
multiple-level and multiple-grade choirs to include
all ringers. If you ever have one or a few new ringers
show up to a rehearsal, pull this piece out, and they
will feel like they fit right in, while your established
ringers are sufficiently challenged. Three
compatible scores allow all ringers to be successful
at their own level. Both A2 and A3 have no page
turns and offer options for digital projection to make
the learning process quicker and more accurate.
Use Per Fiddler with International culture or folk
music studies in school (students could even sing
with it and do a simple dance), as a featured piece
in concerts or Festivals and in worship settings with
the sacred title With Strings and Harp.

the melody moves throughout the ensemble, giving

Tower Praises—Karen Lakey Buckwalter.
Composed for the Greater Dallas Handbell
Association, Tower Praises begins as though
we were hearing tower bells from afar in the
countryside. The entire piece has many slow,
drifting scale passages which are paired with an
original melody. This melody is both hidden in
the middle bells and can also be found in broad,
sweeping, forte passages. The center section is
based on the English "method" of tower ringing
known as "Plain Hunt Major" and takes ringers
back in history to the roots of tower ringing.

4 Trinity Fanfare—Alex Guebert. Alex Guebert's

l Vivamente—Michael Mazzatenta. Ascending
higher and higher, this original work by Michael
Mazzatenta will have you playing, as the title says,
"in lively fashion." Besides the earworm melody of
the opening section, the middle section employs
handchimes and lovely contrast. But "lively"
returns with its ascending scale motive for a
thrilling conclusion. For church or concert, this is
a wonderful addition to the repertoire.
10810974 3/5 Octave. . . . . AGEHR-L2+ 5.50
l Vivamus!—Michael J. Glasgow. The title of this
exciting piece is drawn from the enthusiastic Latin
exclamation meaning "let us live!". Abundant use
of special techniques provides perfect teaching
moments for single choirs or festival ringers and
a clever incorporation of melodic retrograde
provides a bit of a scherzo. This joyful, lively piece
is accessible and fun: with a couple of key changes
but limited accidentals throughout, it provides a
recipe for ringers to be active as well as successful!
