Sondra Tucker expertly weaves he tunes SARANAM and GORDON into a meaningful composition. The piece is scored for 3-6 octave handbells and 3-5 octave handchimes. The bells and chimes play simultaneously as the melody is highlighted with brief respites of interesting chime chords alone. Set in a lilting six-eight time, the melody moves throughout the ensemble, giving all ringers the chance to shine. The middle section introduces a countermelody in the high treble bells, giving ensembles a chance to work on the balance of parts and musicality. Composed for the Greater Dallas Handbell Association, Tower Praises begins as though we were hearing tower bells from afar in the countryside. The entire piece has many slow, drifting scale passages which are paired with an original melody. This melody is both hidden in the middle bells and can also be found in broad, sweeping, forte passages. The center section is based on the English "method" of tower ringing known as "Plain Hunt Major" and takes ringers back in history to the roots of tower ringing. 10796497 3/6 Octave. . . . . . Ascending higher and higher, this original work by Michael Mazzatenta will have you playing, as the title says, "in lively fashion." Besides the earworm melody of the opening section, the middle section employs handchimes and lovely contrast. But "lively" returns with its ascending scale motive for a thrilling conclusion. The title of this exciting piece is drawn from the enthusiastic Latin exclamation meaning "let us live!". Abundant use of special techniques provides perfect teaching moments for single choirs or festival ringers and a clever incorporation of melodic retrograde provides a bit of a scherzo.
