16 48613 NARRATOR 2: Jesus was taken to the home of Caiaphas, the high priest, where the scribes and elders began to question Him. In truth, their plan had always been to use false testimony to put Jesus to death. Claiming that His responses were blasphemy, they handed Him over to Pilate, the governor. NARRATOR 1: The light of a new day began to emerge on that Friday morning, but nothing could dispel the gloom that hovered over the city as Jesus faced His accusers. Pilate knew that Jesus was innocent, yet the angry mob was intent on putting Him to death. They shouted, "Let Him be crucified!" NARRATOR 2: And so, on that never-to-be-forgotten morning, Jesus, the Light of the World, was sentenced to the cruelest of deaths. First, though, they mocked Him by pressing a crown of thorns onto His dear head and wrapping a robe around His sorely beaten body. They jeered at Him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"
