NARRATOR 2:
Jesus
was taken to the home of Caiaphas, the high priest, where the scribes and elders began to
question Him. In truth, their plan had always been to use false testimony to put Jesus to death.
Claiming that His responses were blasphemy, they handed Him over to Pilate, the governor.
NARRATOR 1:
The light of a new day began to emerge on that Friday morning, but nothing could dispel the
gloom that hovered over the city as Jesus faced His accusers. Pilate knew that Jesus was
innocent, yet the angry mob was intent on putting Him to death. They shouted, "Let Him be
crucified!"
NARRATOR 2:
And so, on that never-to-be-forgotten morning, Jesus, the Light of the World, was sentenced to
the cruelest of deaths. First, though, they mocked Him by pressing a crown of thorns onto His
dear head and wrapping a robe around His sorely beaten body. They jeered at Him, saying,
"Hail, King of the Jews!" And then, Jesus, our Savior, was led to the hill called Calvary, where
a cross awaited Him.
