71 NARRATION nl y UNDERSCORE The huge crowds in the streets who shouted "Hosanna to the Son of David" had heard Jesus preach and had seen Him perform great signs and wonders. They proclaimed, "Never has a man spoken like this man!" But ultimately they would reject Him as their Messiah. Jesus began to look to His destiny...a cruel death on the cross, offering Himself as the Sacrifice for sin. Just a few days after that first Palm Sunday, He would make His way to a garden...on a night which would seem to never end...and spend agonizing hours there in prayer. re vi ew O MAN OF SORROWS In the garden of Gethsemane where Jesus had prayed, He was arrested, endured a mockery of a trial, and was found guilty of blasphemy. Jesus Christ...the only begotten Son of God...was to be crucified the next day. He was scourged and tortured through the night and early morning, and then forced to bear a heavy cross on His bleeding back on the long walk up Calvary's mountain. He was nailed to that cross and endured the horrors of hanging upon it until He was finally able to say, "IT IS FINISHED". God's great plan of redemption was complete! Fo rP THE BORROWED TOMB When Jesus was sealed inside that tomb, in the eyes of the world, this should have been the end for this young rabbi who claimed to be a king. They couldn't know that God had a different plan...a glorious plan for all time and eternity! GOOD NEWS FROM JERUSALEM After His resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ appeared on several occassions to His disciples, and once to over 500 people. He offered many infallible proofs that He had conquered death, the grave, and the powers of evil. He ascended back to Heaven where He is today, fully alive and interceding for the saints. As the angels declared to the disciples that day, He will return to earth again in like manner! From the days of the early church until right now we have proclaimed the gospel...the GOOD NEWS that Jesus Christ is mighty to save! He is NOT still on a cross! He is NOT still in a tomb! He WILL return and fulfill all the promises and the prophesies in God's Word concerning Him! Praise God for that empty tomb!
