SCENE 5
EUGENIA: But all the Old Testament Prophets had one thing in common: the
theme of redemption!
JOY:
Wait a minute– say that again. Was redemption a Major Prophet or
a Minor Prophet?
STEVE:
Ahem . . . again, spoken like a true Minor Prophet.
EUGENIA:
Joy, redemption wasn't a Prophet at all!
JOE: #redemption. It was the message of the Prophets.
EUGENIA:
Very good, Joe! Redemption was indeed the message of the Old
Testament Prophets.
IZZY:
OK. Let me get this straight . . . the Major and Minor Prophets
told God's people His message—redemption. And Isaiah, a Major
Prophet, (showing pride) predicted Baby Jesus!
JOY:
(still confused) But I still don't understand who "Redemption" was
. . . ?
ZACH:
(taking the megaphone) And what does he have to do with our band?
EUGENIA:
Izzy, redemption was not a Prophet. Redemption is what God did for
us to save us.
STEVE:
No . . . if I understand what she's saying, redemption is what God did
to save me!
EUGENIA:
Yes! (walking to Steve and hugging him.) He loved us so much that
He came to earth to show Himself to His people and set us free. And
Zach, that's what your band will sing about at Christmas!
JOY:
(says slowly) To show Himself to us and set us free…
IZZY:
(in awe) So it happened just like Isaiah wrote!
STEVE:
Hey! (excitedly reaching for a Bible) That's the Christmas story!
Where is that in the Bible?
EUGENIA:
Ooh, I know where it is . . . it's in the New Testament, in the book of
Luke, the second chapter. The birth of Jesus was what the Prophets
were telling the people—God would provide redemption. (kids look
up Luke 2 and pass the Bible, as preschoolers enter to form Nativity)
