Das Grosse Halleluja (The Great Hallelujah)
—Franz Schubert/arr. Ben May.
One of
Schubert's early works, penned in 1816 while
he was only 19, this work hearkens back to an
earlier time. The running eighth notes in the piano
accompaniment with triadic harmonies in the upper
hand doubling the choir combined with the festive,
joyful spirit of the text are a nod to the Baroque era.
Translation and pronunciation guides are provided.

Die Junge Nonne (The Young Nun)—
Franz Schubert/arr. Brandon Williams.
Schubert, composer of over 600 lieder, elevated
the art form by creating settings that give equal
consideration to the melody, piano accompaniment
and painting of the text. This adaptation of a
classic lied for treble chorus is extremely authentic
and presents an opportunity for choruses to
be introduced to this art form. An excellent
pronunciation guide and translation are provided for

Nisi Dominus—Baldassare Galuppi/
ed. Kevin T. Padworski.
Although primarily
known as an opera composer, Galuppi contributed
a steady output of sacred music. In this edition,

the piano accompaniment, but the figured bass
symbols are included for educational purposes or for
accompaniment by a Baroque ensemble. The choral
parts have been maintained according to the original
manuscript. A wonderful example of authentic

This is a work by a
little known 17th century Italian composer,

church but also that women wrote music for it as
well. Providing both a realized accompaniment and
a cello part, authentic performances are possible
of some of these little known but magnificent
works. Discreet editorial suggestions are provided
