This minor blues was written by Nat Adderley for Chicago DJ, Holmes "Daddy-O" Daylie and was first heard on Cannonball Adderley's seminal album, "Somethin' Else." This well-crafted arrangement swings just like the original, and includes a flexible solo section for any soloist. Written-out bass lines and piano voicings are included as well as chord/ scale sheets in all keys. One for the Maestro is a relaxed swinger in the style of the great Count Basie/Sammy Nestico charts. After the solo section, there's a highly effective full band section that begins quietly and builds to a tasteful rubato ending. This outstanding shuffle chart sounds like a big old freight train coming down the tracks, and it just builds and builds! Clifford Brown's Sandu has long been a jam-session staple for anyone that wants to shred some E-flat blues. Chris Sharp delivers great ensemble writing that really swings in the chart's blow section. The familiar melody is featured with a trumpet and tenor sax duet at the top of the tune and returns with the duet at the end. Sandu also includes written or improvised solos for tenor sax and trumpet with a great "rhythm out" interlude between the solos. As if that isn't enough, there's an excellent sax section soli and a roaring shout chorus before the recap! As the title implies, this swingin' chart features the saxophone section in all of its glory! Written in a 12-bar blues style, there is space for all your sax players to play written or improvised solos over the B-flat blues. With a catchy melody and some well-written big blow sections, this tune is sure to be a favorite of your entire band and, most importantly, the saxes! 11202587 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Secret Love—Sammy Fain/arr. Dave Wolpe. Featuring the trombone section, Dave Wolpe's chart on Secret Love just cooks and cooks! All four trombone parts have written-out solo sections, there's plenty of section work and nice ensembles too. The lead 'bone range is to high Bb and lead trumpet is to written B above the staff. This is an accessible and terrific chart to showcase your trombones. Highly recommended! Frank Foster's composition Shiny Stockings is one of the greatest jazz tunes ever for big band. Arranged by Greg Yasinitsky and scored at an accessible level, this chart has all the ingredients you expect plus a few short section solis and an ensemble shout chorus. This arrangement stays very close to the original, yet is more accessible for developing groups. Other features include a written solo for 2nd trumpet with the lead trumpet range to written A above the staff. This Basie classic belongs in every jazz library! Highly recommended! Optional expanded instrumentation. 10071900 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 H Sing, Sing, Sing—Louis Prima/trans. Mike Lewis. Here it is...perhaps the most recognizable swing tune of all time! This incredible transcription is as close as you're going to come to the original (which included clarinet and less than a full compliment of brass). This chart is scored for a standard 5 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones and rhythm, but aside from that, it is the original as played by Benny Goodman. Every lick is there, including all the Gene Krupa drum breaks! This chart is a must for every big band's library! 2411486 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .60.00 Sister Sadie—Horace Silver/arr. Bryan Kidd. Experience this hard-bop style work that really gets things kickin'. The saxes open with the famous head and this chart has been made more accessible, yet remains true to the original. There are a wealth of performance suggestions included to make this chart work at many ability levels. Containing all the elements of Horace Silver's original tune, this arrangement can be opened up to feature more soloists than just the tenor (provided with a written solo and changes). A sax soli feature helps to bring this one home! An outstanding arrangement of a jazz standard! 10009016 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 Smokey Joe—Bret Zvacek. Smokey Joe is a spirited, feel-good shuffle chart that's guaranteed to get the band and the audience grooving. At around 120 bpm, it features catchy figures, powerful ensemble sections, and an engaging groove that provides lots of energy without extreme demands. Additional highlights include a small group of two tenors and two trombones on the head, super full band scoring, and nice interplay between the horn sections. With a solo section over standard F blues, it can be opened up to feature anyone with written or improvised solos. A short spot for drums before the final chord takes it home! 10999962 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .52.00 4 Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise—Sigmund Romberg/arr. Paul Baker. Paul Baker's take on this wonderful Sigmund Romberg standard is very exciting right off the top! It switches between straight-eighth and relaxed swing feels at around 150 bpm. The creative and tasty features include a written trumpet 1 solo on flugelhorn, written or improvised solos for trumpet and tenor, an outstanding sax soli, and a solo for drums over a horns interlude. The set also includes an auxiliary percussion part and optional parts for flute and vibes. Highly recommended for any performance and especially for contests and festivals! 11198998 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 4 Solar—Miles Davis/arr. John Wasson. From his early "cool" period, this Miles Davis standard is arranged here in a contemporary setting featuring alto sax and flugelhorn on the melody.
