The lead trumpet range is to written G on top of the staff and there's an open solo section with written solos provided for E-flat, B-flat instruments and trombone. If Nat Adderley could hear this chart on his iconic jazz standard, he would be pleased! The first statement stays very close to the original, which is a good thing. The solos are for written or improvised alto and trumpet, and the solo backgrounds are simply wonderful. This swinger plays well at about 176 bmp, has excellent full-ensemble passages, a bari sax and rhythm section break before the last chorus, an exciting shout chorus, and great development. Arranged for six horns and rhythm section, this accessible chart on Charlie Parker's swing classic features a trio of alto sax, trumpet and guitar to start things off, followed later by great sounding scoring for the full ensemble. Solos are included for trumpet and alto sax with chord/scale sheets in all keys imcluded. Instrumentation: 3 saxes, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone and rhythm section. Optional parts are included for alto sax, tenor sax and trombone. 10461362 Jazz Ensemble (Little Big Band). . . . . . . . . . . .45.00 4 Yuriko—Billy Byers. This is a quintessential original chart for the Count Basie Orchestra. Originally recorded on Basie Land, the easy swing feel and tempo make this piece very accessible to most bands. There is a bit of flute in two saxophone parts. There are solos for tenor, trumpet, and piano. Of course there is the required masterful shout chorus that leads to a quiet, cool ending. The ranges make this a very accessible chart for developed bands. 11202782 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 Blues & Swing Medium-Advanced Active Measures—Rick Lawn. Active Measures is a classic straight-ahead swing chart with bebop overtones that groove right along, especially behind the soloists. Additional features include two sax soli sections and a short journey into a straight-eighth Latin feel. Cup mutes are featured throughout the brass and instantly place the listener back in the day. Solo space is provided for piano, trumpet, and tenor sax, and a surprise coda appears just before the ending. Brass ranges: trumpet to written high D and trombone to written A-flat. Show off your rhythm section with this high powered bebop chart for experienced groups based on I Got Rhythm changes. The unique intro features the horns and the drummer on ride cymbal, and then they trade phrases. After some dynamic ensemble playing, the chart launches right into a piano solo with super backgrounds. Then there's a sax soli, and later a section where the bass and drums trade fours. Tom Molter has composed an exciting and compelling piece akin to the big-band charts inspired by the music of Pat Metheny. Apollo's Reel is set in a bright 3/4 feel with temporary shifts to a 4/4 swing feel. This modern piece will provide energy and depth to any concert! 10759902 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .60.00 4 At Long Last Love—Cole Porter/arr. Billy Byers. As recorded on This Time by Basie!, this arrangement is pure Basie. Opening with a short figure reminiscent of the Count, the band then swings at a bright tempo into a terrific version of this great melody. Les Hooper's arrangement will keep everyone moving forward with this original based on Rhythm chord changes. Solo spaces for tenor and alto plus an open solo section for all players and a hot shout chorus. Got to have this one! Not for wimps! 2233872 Jazz Ensemble Professional Version . . . . . . . .60.00 Beauty and the Beast—Alan Menken/arr. Gordon Goodwin. Gordon Goodwin pays tribute to the great Count Basie on this famous Disney tune. With a slow Basie groove, solos for piano and tenor sax, dynamics galore, and a fabulous shout chorus, this is a fantastic chart from start to finish. As performed by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band. 10012004 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .70.00 H Black Hole Sun—Chris Cornell/arr. James Miley. James Miley presents a very hip arrangement of a great contemporary tune. Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun is masterfully scored for the modern big band, making great use of interesting saxophone effects, a wonderful rhythm section feel, neat rhythmic ideas, and very playable ensemble parts. The trumpet range is an optional written D. The melody is stated by tenor saxophone and trumpet with warm, dissonant backgrounds provided by the ensemble. The soloists can be as chosen for tenor saxophone, trumpet and/or trombone, making this very flexible for the strengths of your band. 10455848 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .65.00 Blue Train—John Coltrane/arr. Kris Berg. Kris Berg has scored John Coltrane's jazz standard to offer strong ensemble writing, a fierce sax section soli on Coltrane's transcribed solo, and solo space on the 12-bar blues chord progression. It's flexible so you can have as few or as many soloists as desired with backgrounds as needed. Great tune, great chart... it's as simple as that! 10071917 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .60.00 Blues & More—Jeff Jarvis. As the title implies, this chart is more than just another blues chart. Blues & More is scored in a blues format, but with a bridge. Featuring a tuneful melody, this exciting and fun chart has a great groove with its medium swing shuffle style. The exciting ensemble parts are supported by rich harmonies, and all instruments have interesting parts to play. With the accessible blues progression, everyone can get into the spotlight using the E-flat, B-flat and C solo sheets that are included. A very effective horns-only section is followed by solis for each horn section. A big ensemble introduction leads into the familiar and hip bass and piano line followed by the melody stated by alto, tenor, trumpet, and trombone. This chart also features great section and full ensemble parts throughout, a huge shout chorus, and the lead trumpet goes to written high D. Solo space is available for alto, tenor, trumpet, and drums. This extended arrangement is a great big band chart on a great Cedar Walton jazz classic. Recorded on The New Sound of Maynard Ferguson and his Orchestra in 1963, this edited version incorporates Maynard's super-high lines into the chart so that there are no superhuman concerns in that respect. This piece has a great feel to it, moving through a lovely melody to solo space for many players and back to a cool, quiet ending. Simple and a touch complex at the same time, this trombone solo feature swings hard with a touch of the blues included. Composed for Wycliffe Gordon and the Nashville Jazz Composers Collective. 11164623 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .60.00 4 Cool Man Jack—Stockton Helbing/arr. Kris Berg. This sizzlin' chart performed here by Kris Berg & The Metroplexity Big Band from the CD Perspectives was written for the South Carolina All-State Jazz Band. This arrangement utilizes many color combinations, a dark melody, and a hard-swinging Elvin Jones style. The chart has solo space for lead tenor sax and lead trombone, which leads to a powerful shout chorus before ending with a recap of the introduction. Perfect as an opener or change-of-pace chart, it is orchestrated for 5-4-4-5 (including vibes). 11205844 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .65.00 H Count Bubba—Gordon Goodwin. Here's a monster of a swinger that's designed to feature the entire ensemble. In addition to a wonderful riff- based theme and a very satisfying shout chorus, the chart includes section feature spots for saxes, trumpets and trombones, without the rhythm section. The entire ensemble gets a workout on this highly creative chart! The overriding style is driving swing alternating with some Latin statements of the melody. Suggested solos are included for trombone, tenor, trumpet, and guitar or optional alto sax, but improvised solos are welcome. The tempo is 164-172 bpm, the lead trumpet range is to written B above the staff, and there's a roaring shout chorus. Optional parts are included for flute and vibes. A soulful melody for the soloist, which is written and improvised, is icing on the cake, along with an improvised solo and cadenzas at the end. Dallas Burke. This Bricusse and Newley Broadway classic has enjoyed immense popularity since the version recorded by Michael Buble. This chart begins with with an epic and swingin' full-ensemble section reminiscent of the Buble version. There's a sultry trumpet solo before the band cranks into an uptempo Latin groove featuring room for soloists and lots of inventive horn lines. The chart goes back to the original swing style to bring the house down for a big ending!
