Ashokan Farewell (from "The Civil War")—
Jay Ungar/arr. Calvin Custer. The simple,
memorable theme from the acclaimed PBS
series makes excellent concert fare. Calvin
Custer's realistic treatment includes the easy
violin solo, piano and percussion. This is
technically quite easy, but very emotional.

Barefoot Boogie—Lorrie Baum. Barefoot
Boogie is a lively piece written in the boogie-
woogie style that developed originally for piano
in African American communities around the
1870s and progressed through larger ensembles
over time. The genre sprang out of the blues
primarily as dance music. Barefoot Boogie
offers a fun challenge with a first exposure to
playing in an early jazz style. Walking bass lines
throughout will delight and challenge the bass
players, and all instruments have their turns at
the melody and opportunities for solos.Note to
DirectorsBarefoot boogie should be played with
a swing rhythm throughout. The solo section
between measures 49 and 72 can be repeated
for ad lib solos for any students (or directors)
brave enough to give it a go.
11566671 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .55.00
Blue-Fire Fiddler—Soon Hee Newbold. This
kickin' fiddle tune is energetic, exciting and
fun. The fast and furious fiddling sounds much
harder than it really is. Riffs, finger patterns
and bowings are very idiomatic and lend
themselves to fast playing. This is sure to be
the hit of the concert!
2474322 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .60.00
Blue Rhythmico—Kirt N. Mosier. Like the
title implies, there's a powerful rhythm and
some jazzy blue notes, nothing subtle here!
This original uses guitar-like riffs and a driving
ostinato bass line in the low strings to build up
to a powerful sound.
2481200 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .60.00
Bumps in the Night—Bud Woodruff. Ever
wonder what those noises are at night when
you're in the dark? This spooky piece uses
minor-scale motifs and pizzicato effects to get
your imagination going. Perfect for a fall or
Halloween performance.
11392962 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .60.00
Chicken Foot Transplant—Matt Turner.
Put on your dancin' shoes! This entertaining
and infectious "Bo Diddley" groove offers a
smorgasbord of blues, country fiddling and
funk, with added flair by a drumset. There's
even a solo section, which may be improvised
or played as written.

Curse of the Rosin Eating Zombies—
Richard Meyer. The sequel to the popular
Rosin Eating Zombies From Outer Space!
Students and directors will enjoy giving blood
curdling screams, knocking on instruments,
and bowing behind the bridge for that iconic
"psycho sound." Pizzicato, tremolo, trills,
munching noises, and zombie-talk are sure to
be a scarily funny hit!
2472802 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .56.00
Dance of the Shadows—Susan Day. This
dark and shadowy waltz elegantly weaves
a spell in D minor, dancing through a twisted
web of accidentals as it shifts and changes
to E minor. Players get to work on extended
and low-one finger patterns, slurs, and even
momentary syncopation as the haunted
melody floats from section to section, drifting
and descending chromatically, only to vanish
into thin air.
11559083 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .60.00
Double Trouble—Lauren Bernofsky. Here's
a punchy teaching tune to make the key of D
come to life! All the voices have fun with the
edgy and rhythmic eighth note "double trouble"
motif. Emphasis on accents and tight ensemble
playing will make this a class favorite!
10091950 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .45.00
Ear-igami—Richard Meyer. Ear-igami is
a fascinating musical tribute to the ancient
Japanese art of paper folding. Instead of a
bow, each performer uses a piece of paper
to make sounds and to "play" their instrument.
Your audience will be entranced as they watch
and hear the variety of effects possible in this
charming set of pentatonic variations. A unique
concert selection!
10066927 String Orchestra,
Percussion Optional . . . . . .60.00
Folk Tune and Fiddle Dance—Percy
Fletcher. A long-time favorite for festival and
contest, Percy Fletcher's two-movement suite
has been a choice teaching piece for school
orchestras. In true English folk style, the first
movement has multiple sections in varying
styles and meters, and the second movement
is rhythmic, energetic fiddle writing at its best.
4964359 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .65.00

Nachtmusik, Trepak from "The Nutcracker."

Leftover Blues—George T. Frueh. Leftovers
just got better with this Grade 2 piece based
upon a 12-bar blues pattern. It offers both
pizzicato and arco playing, syncopated jazz
rhythms, and a traditional big-band-like "shout
chorus" that will have your students asking for
seconds. Includes piano and drum set parts.

Legend of Sleepy Hollow (Beware the
Headless Horseman)—Dennis Eveland.
Wonderfully spooky! It's the haunting tale of
the headless horseman. It starts very slow
and dark, depicting the ominous night and the
deep forest, before taking off to a gallop as the
horseman gives chase. The ratchet and the
woodblocks add the essential creepy sounds
that students and audiences will love. The
cello and bass sections get to enjoy a moment
of In the Hall of the Mountain King. Don't be
frightened, this piece is an excellent choice for
your next concert!

tunes playfully from one section to another,
sometimes over a pizzicato walking bass line.
This top-seller is full of energy and fun!
10048339 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .60.00
Remote Control—Richard Meyer. What if you
could control a live orchestra with a remote
control? With the sound of a bell, the orchestra
switches from piece to piece in mid-phrase.
Listen as Eine Kleine Nachtmusik changes
to Beethoven's Seventh to Stars and Stripes
Forever and back again! Your audience will
love it as they surf from channel to channel,
ranging from opera to sci-fi. This remote even
has a pause button that freezes the orchestra,
and a mute button that haves them playing
without sound. Great fun for everyone!

one piece your developing orchestra will love
rehearsing and performing, it's this one! This
programmatic piece spins a tale of mayhem
and mischief as the rosin eating zombies take
over your stage complete with blood-curdling
screams, glissandos, ponticello and more.
All the eerie effects are clearly explained and
notated, so the only trouble you'll have is
getting your students to stop playing it. It's a
wild ride you won't want to miss!

Serendipity Suite—Richard Meyer. Great for
fostering pride in one's section and dynamite
for a recruiting concert, each movement of
this suite is designed to highlight different
instruments of the string orchestra with style
and flavor, emphasizing the unique qualities of
each. With titles such as Fit as a Fiddle, Sol-La
Viola, Cello Pudding and Oasis for Basses,
this piece answers an important and greatly
overlooked motivational need in today's music
for students.
2244762 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .85.00
Super Sleuth—Thom Sharp. Here's a funky
blues in the key of D minor with lots of call-and-
response action between sections to keep it
interesting. The melody and background ideas
are presented in variation form before coming
back together for the final refrain, ending with
the "sleuth-i-est" final chord. A drum set part
is included to give your performance an extra
kick. A fun exercise in fingering patterns.
11570775 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .50.00

arrangement featuring a whistle and a section
that uses strings as percussion instruments.
Highly recommended!
10312102 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .50.00
Viva Violas—Richard Meyer. Take out the
castanets because the violas are taking the
stage, Spanish style! It begins in a paso doble
reminiscent of a vigorous Spanish guitar solo,
then moves into a major-key allegretto where
the violas even get a chance to glissando!
2475430 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .60.00
