The Story of Jonah
and the Great fish
(SAILOR 1 enters with the Bible again and moves to center stage as STORYTELLERS 3 and 4
exit and STORYTELLERS 5 and 6 take their places at the microphones. Other CAST
MEMBERS rearrange the stage for the next story—with a stepladder center stage and a
curved line of four or five boxes slightly downstage from it.)
SAILOR 1: (reading) Chapter Two. The Story of Jonah and the Great Fish.
(SAILOR 1 exits as the SIGNHOLDER enters with a sign that reads "STORM.")
STORYTELLER 6: Once again we need some help from the audience. Whenever we say the
word "Storm," this sailor will hold up this sign...(SIGNHOLDER holds up
the sign)... and we'd like everyone on this side of the audience...
(indicating the stage right half of the audience) ... to make two flashes of
lightning. Like this:
(The CAST MEMBERS on STAGE RIGHT demonstrate by quickly raising their hands over
their heads with open fingers twice as they say: "Flash! Flash!")
STORYTELLER 6: Let's try it. Storm!
(The SIGNHOLDER holds up the storm sign.)
STAGE RIGHT (leading the audience in responding) Flash! Flash!
GROUP:
STORYTELLER 6: Good!
