79 (CAST MEMBERS with blue pom-poms enter and sit downstage from the ship with their backs to the audience. They shake the pom-poms gently to represent water or waves.) STORYTELLER 7: They had their fearless captain on board. (CAPTAIN enters with captain's hat on.) CAST FORMING (saluting) Ahoy, Captain. (The CAPTAIN joins PAUL on the ship.) SHIP: STORYTELLER 8: Along with a centurion—that's a Roman army commander—named Julius. (JULIUS enters wearing a Roman helmet.) CAST FORMING (saluting) Ahoy, Julius. (JULIUS joins PAUL and the CAPTAIN.) SHIP: STORYTELLER 7: And a group of Roman soldiers. (SOLDIERS march on with spears.) SOLDIERS: Hup, two-three-four, Hup, two-three-four! CAST FORMING (saluting) Ahoy, Nameless Extras! (The SOLDIERS march onto the ship, SHIP: and all the passengers face stage right.) STORYTELLER 8: They hadn't gone too far, when they had to switch to a different ship. (PAUL, JULIUS, the CAPTAIN, the SOLDIERS and the CAST FORMING THE SHIP look at each for a moment; then shrug and change positions. The CAST MEMBERS forming the ship make a 360 degree turn in place. Everyone on board turns from facing stage right to face stage left, and the CAST MEMBERS holding the sail move so the sail points stage right, revealing a new side to the audience. The new side of the sail reads, "Different Roman Ship.") STORYTELLER 7: The new ship continued to sail toward Rome, but the wind was against them, so they traveled slowly. STORYTELLER 8: In fact, as winter approached, they were less than halfway to their destination. STORYTELLER 7: Now winter was a season of storms, and Paul advised the captain and Julius to stop the voyage. PAUL: If we go on now, you could lose some cargo—you could lose the ship—you could even lose your life! STORYTELLER 8: But they ignored Paul's warning and continued on the journey. CAPTAIN: Don't worry. What does a preacher know about sailing a ship? JULIUS: Yeah. What could go wrong? (Sound of thunder.) ALL: Uh-oh. For Preview Only
